For me, it is single malt whisky, after my recent trip to Scotland.
My dad preferred brandy, however, there was always a bottle of Johnny Walker Black Label and Chivas Regal in the drinks cabinet.
I can't stand the really smokey single malts such as Laphroaig and Lagavulin favoured by my ex-hubby and late partner respectively.
However, I discovered there are plenty of single malts that are not smokey at all, and have started to collect small bottles of various brands and bottling.
Even treated myself to a couple of Glencairn whisky glasses.
I like to have mine with a dash of water, and got a little pipette specially designed for the job, again, while I was holidaying in Scotland.
I may treat myself to a travelling case for the glasses so that I can take them with me when I go camping!
Feeling rather civilised and grown up when I am enjoying a wee dram of single malt in the evening, as I don't usually drink spirits at home on my own.
What taste(s) have you developed late in life?

"I thought you were gonna say the pearl necklace was your acquired taste lol"
.
I started making and wearing pearl necklaces a long time ago.
And yes, I have always known I like the alternative kind of pearl necklaces! |

Can't find a small bottle.
Got their Lasanta and it is lovely.
Just found an online retailer that sell samples in 30ml glass vials for tasting purposes. I shall try some of the rarer ones before splashing out on a full bottle. |

There are a number of small bottles available at The Whisky Exchange, and I aim to work my way through.
May draw the line at those costing hundreds and thousands of pounds though.
Jura has already been recommended to me by Laine, and is one my "to get" list.
Shall look out for Balvenie too. |

i developed a taste for it at an early age through my grandad, who worked at a distillery. Got him roaring d*unk once a the royal highland show pushing his wheelchair to every malt whisky sampling stand, taking two for himself and my gran but downing both. I prefer the Islay malts myself, Talisker is a great one to. |

Unfortunately, expensive single-malt whisky was something I acquired a taste for quite early in life and now I rarely have it as it gives me dreadful heartburn...not even the usual 150mg of Zantac beforehand will stave it off.
I miss it so much |

A day without single malt is like a day without sunshine |

"Liver, couldn't stand it as a kid, too many horrid school dinner memories. Where as now I love the stuff with lashings of onion gravy and mash mmm
Scarlett"
I also like liver now but prefer the good quality stuff, cooked just past the blood stage, in wholemeal bread with branston pickle not much of a fan of liver and onions still, too afraid that it will be a crumbly mess like school days |
