Housecoat is quite common in Scotland but I always say dressing gown.

Dressing gown.

Although I bought a zip front 'Dressing gown' for my daughter at crimbo and we refer to it as a housecoat... I think its because she looks like her nana in it

My wife has a big fluffy pink 'dressing gown', and two thinner, lighter versions which she calls "housecoats" - and gets annoyed when I refer to the latter as "day nighties"...

I’ve got a mate that says it he’s a strange youth.

I don't say either, it's robe. But they all sound old-fashioned to me.

"Housecoat or bathrobe. X"

I'd say a bathrobe was a different think. It finishes drying you off after a shower, or a bath, and keeps you warm until you get back to the bedroom.
