What is the meaning of life?
Jump to: Newest in thread
Life has no meaning that applies to everyone. Individuals need to find their own meaning or accept that for them, there is none. Once meaning starts being attributed to life it makes one individual's life worth more than another's in people's eyes and that's not right in mine. |

Eventually Our Sun and the other stars, will burn out. Leaving the universe in complete darkness. All life will cease to exist. With that in mind. Life has very little point. Our existence is accidentally. And a time will come when there is no trace that we ever existed. |

I'm inclined to agree with that. Once we know the point of a pterodactyls life we'll no the meaning of ours. |

We are putting telescopes into space to observe things as far as we know have never been seen before.
Observing the Universe makes the circle complete and to be honest what have we not yet seen?
Reality could actually be what exists inside of a black hole or elsewhere. It’s possible.
Don’t think life is accidental, but it could take billions of lives to fully appreciate this incredible cosmos. |

I’ve never considered life to either have, or even need to have, meaning. You don’t exist, then you’re born, you live, you die and then you don’t exist again, it’s merely our consciousness that struggles with concepts of life, death and existence that drive us to strive to find meaning, but those concepts are merely coping mechanisms. |

"I saw this quote and I thought that it was nicely put and I really like it and I want to share it with you, it is to "find god within you" what do you think about it? "
I think I’d like to modify that to
Find peace within you. |

"Naaa, it's 42....
I like the sentiment but I'm not religious so maybe it's more like 'finding the truth of you'.
Gosh I'm feeling like a soppy sod this morning. Shake it off!!!"
Nothing wrong with feeling soppy once in a while lol! |

If you can find your god inside you then kudos to you but personally I find living my best life is much more rewarding than looking inwardly for a Harry Potter type character and serves me better in every day life.

It's a deep question. I do remember one night looking up at the stars, thinking of their perfect alignment, and how the planet has been set up to allow the perfect balance between life and nature and how some of life's meaning could, indeed must, be -
At that point I had to stop. I was now at the head of the dogging queue and it was my turn to be noshed. |

Really interesting question OP. Each of us attaches a different meaning and fulfilment. Some from work, others from our legacy to our children or from helping others...
Dare I recommend a book? Vicktor Frankl,"meaning of life". His view as a holocaust survivor. I found it...meaningful |

I had the same question. I read "Little history of philosophy" to understand what the popular philosophers had to say about it. Now I am even more confused. |

I always say death. It’s the only absolute in life.! Some won’t age, some won’t be born. But will still impact the living when they die. I think people are meant to live as though their days are numbered (which they are). Not being guaranteed a tomorrow can alter how you live today. It can give new meaning to life.
Hopefully that makes even just a little sense, I have terrible brain fog today |

"What’s this 42 business? "
****Spoiler from Hitchhiker's guide to Galaxy****
It's a funny sci-fi. They ask a supercomputer what's the meaning of life. The program runs from decades and eventually just answes 42. |

Not sure there is a definite meaning.
For me I'd like to look back on my life knowing I'd been happy and made a positive impact on other people's lives too |

What does to ‘find God within you’ actually mean? |

There is no meaning. It just is. Then it is not, make the most of it and define your own meaning. But there is no ascribed meaning for all. We are but grains of sand swirling in the wind on a vast beach. Individually inconsequential and fleeting. (Well 99.999% of us anyway).

I heard something once, as we are all made up from matter from the big bang, weare the universes way of exploring itself.
If you are looking for a way to live your life, I like the william Blake quote
"If you, who are organised by Divine Providence for spiritual communion, refuse, and bury your talent in the earth, even though you should want natural bread, sorrow and desperation pursue you through life, and after death shame and confusion of face to eternity."
Which I always took to mean, you should follow you talents.

Why didn’t he just say ‘you should follow your talents’ instead of saying a load of words that make very little sense... |

Because using lots of words was his talent, I'm guessing. |

It’s very personal , if you’re passionate for some cause etc then making an impact beyond your life is enough for many people. For others it’s simply just to survive or live live laugh. If you’re spiritual it kid of males it easier, your beliefs give you meaning |
