Pub or restaurant for a first meet ?

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

Hi

I was just wondering what is the norm now for a first meet ? Always like a pub myself. But is a restaurant for dinner or maybe a coffee house a better choice?

Or no public meet at all ???

What’s your preferences

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

Of those options, a coffee shop is the better as far as I'm concerned.

Coffee shop, cafe or pub for me.

Restaurant for dinner is too long if it’s awkward or they’re creepy.

Blacked out panel van with a mattress in the back has always worked for me...

(Coffee shop, really. The van is for 2nd dates.)

Not all ladies are the same.

And that’s fair enough on like an actual first date with someone you’ve met imo. A first meet is different.

surrounded by twinkly lights

I like going out to dinner with people I actually get on with, so a degree of conversation first is needed

Everyone else is normally a cuppa social

Our first physical meet was in a Tea Rooms. Mrs Misfits suggestion as we discussed we both like a good cuppa and a cake. Unfortunately the tea was terrible there and the meet was on the rocks before it got started (I was not impressed). Things worked out a lot better once I took her out for a little drive in my car. That drive saved the day. And here we are 4 years on.

A coffee/tea/hot chocolate somewhere. I prefer to keep initial social meets short.

Coffee/drink.

Need to be able to get out quickly if the attraction isn't there, or of it is there, get to the hotel quickly.

Food gets in the way of both.

Depends on the time of the social for me, coffee if early day time or pub later on.

Less about the drink and more just about a venue that is open at X time

I have done all three and all three have worked well. I get to know the person through texts pretty well so a meal is not scary. But you are there for at least an hour.

In fact I’d be happy if they did drive thru social meets.

Less chat, more action!

I would hate that, and it sometimes leaves some men feeling that you owe them something sexual for the meal. Coffee and cake is better and I pay for it.

Anything you all mutually agree on. I booked a restaurant for a social with a couple. We went out for a couple of drinks before and after - loved it

Coffee, pub that serves food in case you want to be longer....

I wouldn't drink more than 1 unless it was my home town but that would be very unlikely.

Tea shop (coffee at a push) or pub. Restaurants are way too formal

I like to take them on a guided tour of all the local back alleys and railway bridges.

I hope they realise that, if they get out of that alive, they will be fine in a coffee shop.

I'd never buy dinner for someone I did not know. Pub it is if there is no other choice. Preference is coffee shop.

I wouldn't worry what the "norm" is and do what suits you. I would do either but I only meet those I really like from messaging and I don't normally social meet. That's how comfortable I have to be with someone. I do tend to shy away from anything that seems too date like and I think that is more to do with the vibe I get from the other person.

A coffee is fine with me. The thought of having dinner with someone I might not like in rl fills me with dread. It's a bit datey!
