It’s so wrong how performers use the wealth afforded to them to greatly reduce their output.
It’s the fans that gave you this.
And you pay them back with nothing.
Remember Peter Kay announcing a tour then pulling out, making up some crap.

And some performers do whatever they can for their fans...I once went to see Paul Weller and the sound system went down. He went and got his acoustic guitar and played for over an hour while they fixed it, and then carried on with the complete show playlist once it was working again. |

Just because they earn lots of money doesn’t mean they owe us anything. You could turn this argument on its head and complain about the bands than tour non stop and phone in performance after performance with identical banter, occasionally forgetting what town they are in.
When I need a week off, no one I’m a forum denigrates me for it. Stuff changes and gets cancelled for loads of reasons. Whether the artist is loaded or a total newcomer.
Let’s stop thinking we are entitled to have people do exactly what we want because they are famous or rich. It’s a spoilt brat attitude, in my humbled flawed and personal opinion |

Want to, yes. Feel obligated to? No.
Making art isn’t like stacking shelves, you can’t just grind out 8 hours a day. Whether you write books, paint, sing, no one who loves creating finds it easy or enjoys phoning it in.
My favourite author had awful writers block and although he wrote a multinational bestseller that kept him rich for life, he only completed 6 books in his entire life. And only published 2 in the last 25 years of that. But he was struggling to write that entire time.
We, as fans, should admire and respect their output for what it is, and not demand more music, new songs, another tour. If the stars line up for them to create and perform, we are enriched by that. We lose nothing when
They don’t, just as we lose nothing if they never started. |

Side note, performer earn such peanuts from selling music as Spotify and the likes pay minuscule percentages of what an actual album sale would generate, that most bands survive on touring and the mercy they sell while touring. So cancelling a gig is cancelling there breadline. If they’re greedy as you said (either in this thread of the other) they’re not actually profiting from not performing, and will likely lose lots, even if it’s just an increase in their own insurance premiums that cover costs to venues when they can an appearance… |

It's also not true to say artists want to perform let alone should. There are lots of singer/songwriters who don't enjoy playing live and wouldn't choose to if it wasn't so necessary to the promotional aspect of the industry. |

What, like get the crew to do live covid tests on the television?
I remember quite clearly taking a photo of my own vomit when I called in sick for work, just in case they didn't believe me (I rarely call in sick)
As I sent the photo I realised just how fucking toxic the management were that I thought it was necessary to justify my illness and prove it, or they'd think badly of me.
So yeah, I'd say you're in the toxic category. I don't know what's gonna happen about reimbursement.
Yes, it's shit but at the same time I think anyone travelling or spending large amounts of money on things that rely on the presence of other people (whether they're artists, sportspeople, friends or family) are taking a risk. I'm covid positive at the moment. A few of us at work have been hit. It's still the world at the moment.

Lets be fair her the OP woke up this morning and was bored, he picked a subject that he knew nothing about and as the saying goes "he ran up the flag pole" and we have all bitten, entertained him for a couple of hours and now its probably time for his nap

You buy an album you get the album. You buy a ticket you see the show. You get the things you pay for. How does that entitle you to more from them in the future?
Are you going to pay them whether or not they do anything? If not, why should they do something if they don't know people are going to pay for it? |

As someone else said fans don’t own a artist, they pay for a product put out by them. You don’t get to dictate when or how often they your of release new music. You either accept that as a fan or not. As for concerts being cancelled, that’s life. Sometimes things don’t run smoothly and have to be postponed.
I really don’t get the whole fan thing if I am honest. I mean image if people would treat MacDonald bosses or Tesco the same. They put a product out, you buy it. But somehow now macdonalds should owe you something because they are successful. If it wasn’t for us buying loo roll and tea, they wouldn’t be where they are now  |

If the Peter Kay child thing is true ( I can’t find any evidence) but if he was sick then I take back what I said

Couple of points I guess
Mainly, please quote the bit that’s disgusting. Because I’m not the one who said it was a made up crap reason when someone else was in pretty much the exact same scenario. All I did was point out your inconsistency and ask how you’d feel if someone called it crap when you use it, like you did when Peter Kay used it.
Secondarily, why do you need proof? Did you offer proof? If it’s so important to you, surely you’ll be consistent.
I guess it boils down to say what you like when they’re sufficiently unlikely to reply (Hi Peter if you’re reading this!), but get wilfully offended when that’s used against you.
I’m happy with everything I’ve said being watertight for politeness and rule abiding in this thread. Genuinely happy to correspond, publicly, and be judged by anyone who reads it.

You are so right, performers should work whenever they're told to... they have absolutely no right at all to decide for themselves when they are OK to work or not.
