The Artist apparently wants her art removed from Downing Street. What would a fitting new location be?

Has she got a new exhibition on the horizon and is looking for some publicity?

Why was it in Downing Street in the first place?

And I think calling her work ‘art’ is pushing it a bit.

Not where we seem to be...

"Has she got a new exhibition on the horizon and is looking for some publicity?"

That was my first thought when I heard it on the news.

If she has loaned it to Downing Street than fine it's her choice, if she sold it then tough shit she has no control over it anymore

"Has she got a new exhibition on the horizon and is looking for some publicity?"

She’s wealthy and we’ll known so probably not.

Ignoring the infamous tent and bed, I think her more ‘traditional’ paintings and sketches are wonderful.

Going by some of the more bizarre examples of late, not really sure tbh..

But if someone wants to call themselves an artist for placing a load of house bricks on the floor then crack on..

I'm not sure where would be a fitting location. Any gallery, public or private space really.

I have a lot of time for her, she's doing some good work in her local area and to my mind seems very grounded and honest in her intentions.

Not as far as I know.

She's recently recovered from bladder cancer and is looking to set up a space for other artists in a building in her home town. I suspect she might disagree with some of the actions of the current pm.

That's true, that there's a market for the next thing be that a piece of 'music' that's just silence or an egg in a bucket then some one will wax lyrical with great enthusiasm and someone with as my Mum used to say who has 'more money than sense' will buy it..

I'm always daydreaming of making money. I said no one would be stupid enough to buy bottled water. How mistaken was I ? I thought of selling fresh air but you can get it in jars already!

Art that has to be explained, is not art.

The art piece should stand by itself, and create or evoke an emotional reaction in the observer.

The problem with a lot of 'conceptual art' is that the concept has to be explained.

Look at Duchamp's 'fountain' for example.

We were at a gallery where one of the exhibits was pasta letters in a jar another time they had pieces of carpet draped over a ladder.

Is it ok for other people to tell me what art is or am I allowed to make my own mind up?

We saw something similar at Tate modern, I still think some of it was spoof by the maintenance staff..

Alphabet spaghetti was fun with the kids..

I have a 'banksy' stencil (given away with a magazine, which also had an interview with the artist)

If I use it, is it vandalism, or is it a masterpiece worth thousands?

(Spoiler, I'm not Banksy, but he did say in the interview he would acknowledge any use of the stencil as his work)

I don't know the answers to these questions but I do know that I dislike other people telling me what I can and can't appreciate as art. If it pleases me, makes me think or ask myself questions or gets me talking to people about anything but the flaming weather I'm happy.

Even if it increases the value of your property?

You can absolutely make your own mind up. If you couldn’t, there wouldn’t be anywhere near as much art to choose from.

Everything is art now days apparently. An image of some tramp shitting into an empty KFC bucket at a bus stop would be considered art by some. It's a rich person's hobby.

What it does to the value of my property doe not determine whether it is vandalism or not.

I used to point out to my mum, that Tracey Emins received lots of praise for not making her bed or tidying her room. Although I didn't leave used condoms, tissues and fag butts lying around, probably devaluing my art!

My daughter lives in Margate. It’s full of Artists and Musicians now (the reason she moved there) and has overtaken Brighton as the “in” place to be.

Unfortunately it’s become full of wealthy London 2nd home owners in the last few years that has made prices zoom. I’m sure if Tracey sets up an Artist space that allows local people from a low income to work there it will be very welcome.

You are 100% allowed to make your own mind up.

The claim above , 'art that has to be explained, is not art' has been presented as fact rather than belief and it's certainly not fact.

And I do Granny. I go by the time honoured mantra of people who know nothing about art "I know what I like"
