"Why are you dreading it? It is a lovely place!
is not a bit posh? " Dont be intimidated - yes, it is a bit posh and expensive but just walk in there as if you own the place. A lot of people allow themselves to be intimidated and then dont enjoy the event. Walk in there, tall and ready to enjoy the party... What is the worst that can happen? Well - I hope you have a really nice time. |

"Its just full of ordinary people all just having a special afternoon out. If they let me in they will let anyone in
wot food is it? "
Cake and sandwiches. Very dainty but it is a lovely atmosphere. I haven't been in years but as has been said, just relax and enjoy it. |

Finger sandwiches, drop scones, with whole pot of preserve and cream and little cakes, they come round in between to see if you want more. It doesnt look alot but its really filling i couldnt eat all the cakes. Great big pots of tea. Have your family already booked it? Think you have to book 6 weeks in advance |

You don't have to be dainty. I do suggest being clean and tidy though. Set your mind to enjoy it and not hate it before you even get there. |

Check the dress code, as I believe it is likely to be collar and tie for the gents.
Some years ago (as in 20+ years ago), women were not allowed to wear trousers, however, that may have changed.

from someone who works in the Hotel Industry, this is one of THE things you have to do!
Consider the fact you have to book up in advance is simple, this is one of the best experiences and is very popular indeed.
Go and enjoy yourself; you will not regret it at all.
Just let us know how you got on, and how much you DID enjoy yourself! |

"
Went there a year ago, wife wore a trouser suit and it was accepted. Other ladies were wearing trouser suits also. I had nice suit, shirt and tie. Daughter had a jacket and matching skirt and blouse.
Afternoon tea was excellent, as the sandwiches were eaten, the waiter came round and asked if we would like some more. Same with tea etc.
Just go there, mind your manners and have an excellent experience.
Only one thing not to do is take pictures inside the building. I took one of my wife and daughter sat together and was politely requested not to take any more. When asked why, the lady replied 'for security reasons'.
And for someone who asked, the Gents loos are very posh, lots of toiletries to choose from one you've washed your hands!! It's located up on the 1st floor, stairs up opposite the dining area.
Enjoy!! |

I judge places on the quality of the loos all the time. There are some places I happily go to and pay more than I would at other venues simply because the toilets are rather splendid. |

I booked tea at the Ritz as a christmas pressy for my mum and her friend one year.
The ungrateful mare couldn't be arsed to go, so the ticket went to waste.
Wish I had been swinging back then, I could have passed on the tickets to you guys (who would have appreciated em!!) |

Not been to The Ritz but had a Champagne afternoon tea in The Shelbourne in Dublin.

Slattery's Tea Rooms near Bury do a mean afternoon tea too, but book in advance.
OP, go and ejoy your afternoon.
No need to worry, just be yourself ! |
