Yeah, and I wish we could filter our own preferences too. I mean, I’m open to body types in general, but there’s no point in a guy messaging me if he’s into super slim lasses. Still, I suppose there is also the fact that I’ve written that in my profile. |

"When asked for body type when setting up your profile how do you decide which category you fit in? It seems some have strange self perceptions. "
Just be as honest as you can I suppose. I had average and it was then suggested to me that I should change it.
Most of us have decent enough eye sight to decide if someone's definition of their body type matches ours. I'd never be cruel enough to point out that it didn't match my definition. |

I put ample because, I don't know... I'm definitely curvy but I'm also fat with it. Like solidly so. I know you can be curvy at any size but I'd rather people saw me and were pleased than thought I was a size 12 with big boobs. |

"Im down as ample(size 14/16)
I dont class myself as curvy. I have more than a just a lil tummy
(Miss) "
Now I would say you were curvy, and that's a compliment! Definitely in the right places.
This shows our different perception of curvy.

Guess I'm 1 of the cruel ones then, but most take when I say "not ample (that's definitely not an insult from me) enough" , I'm taking the p**s |

Thank you for the compliment though |

I just put average. Then if I do a pic and haven’t been to the gym for a while or have put on a few pounds, it still applies rather than if I put athletic or slim. It’s all subjective anyway and I don’t think many people even check, especially if you have a few different body pics on your profile from different angles. |

I put us both down as athletic because I am fairly flat chested and slim, W is also trim, but I don’t really know what the definitions are… I mean I don’t have abs… despite trying to have them… but I keep myself fit so think it suited… but others may look and say average… I didn’t really think it mattered too much to be honest x

I use curvy because that's how I see myself. I've got a big ass and thick thighs and I want someone to be prepared for the fact that when they try to bend me into pretzel shapes in bed they're gonna see rolls.
I've had people tell me I'm not big enough to be curvy yet you also get forum posts complaining about women just using curvy as a cover for being fat.
Basically everyone interprets those body type labels differently and you'll never please everyone no matter which you choose. Personally I think people should worry less about which label people pick and just go by pictures. It's far easier. |

I said athletic because that's how I'm most often described by others.
Her ladyship uses curvy because she has cuuuuuurves.
Most people are fairly well aware of their body type, there are a few who I would personally disagree with but I wouldn't dream of saying anything to them. I find the personality way more important than a figure - though of course it should be noted that a personality trait I find disagreeable is an inability to be self aware.

Very difficult to pick for women. I think men have it easier. And even harder if your a bigger woman
5’5 and say 120lbs your slim or athletic, nothing too difficulty there
But 5’5 and 200lbs? That’s a hugeeeee range of body shapes and sizes
I think it’s best to have some decent body pictures so everyone knows what they’re dealing with |

Average. I eat to much to be slim, I don't work out enough to class myself as athletic, I don't have big boobs so not curvy, and there is nothing particularly fabulous about me. Simple. |

I was clearly having a good day when I filled it in as I have put 'athletic', but I would probably go for 'average' now, not least as lots of guys on here who class themselves as 'athletic' are in much better shape than I am! |

^^^ this is why I chose large instead of curvy because everyone’s perception of curvy is slightly different and I feel the need to double check people read that I’m large so there is no misunderstanding |

Body shape and age are probably the two characteristics for which people are most dishonest on dating sites (mind you some people even lie about their height!) The problem is when you are honest and put "average" despite veing better built than someone who had put athletic. Personally, being sapiosexual, good convo trumps body shape but I dind dishonrsty a tyrn-off. |

I put what I am, I’m average. I don’t have as defined curves anymore, as my waist is bigger, so my proportions aren’t right, so I don’t think of myself as curvy. To me anyone with a defined waist is curvy, whether a size 6 or a size 26, but it’s obviously subjective, and how you see yourself x

I look at some of the people who have chosen to label themselves as the same body type as I have chosen and it makes me feel like I should change mine up a couple of levels.
It's a descriptor that is completely subjective and therefore completely pointless.
And I haven't looked at men's stats, but apparently the average woman in the UK is a size 16 and has a 36DD bust. I found that rather interesting, as I would imagine many women of those sizes would probably not class themselves as average from what's been said.

Think it's so subjective that it's kind of pointless. I would say though I changed mine from curvy to ample. After the numerous threads suggesting larger women hide behind the curvy label or that we're somewhat delusional about our own choices.
I've plenty of pictures that give a fair representation of me. Which I think is more important than a label. |

Curvy because I have curves. I could of gone average possibly but I'm still curvy and average just sounds a bit crap.

Yep, they might have had an influence on me changing mine. My waist (with a tummy admittedly)' is definitely smaller than my boobs, I have a defined *does a hourglass shape with hands* waist and hips shape when I take a photo naked. But I read a lot of *curvy not fab curvy* kind of comments when on my period and thought fuck it. Ample it is.
The people I meet like my shape and I've never had any negative messages about it. That's good enough for me, when I'm not a hormonal mess. |

My waist is definitely smaller than my boobs and hips, though I have a belly too. But the countless threads curvy doesn't mean fat, swayed my opinion.
Kind of doesn't bother me on my profile, just does when I see those kind of threads and I got the premenstrual bloat going on |

The ONS said the average man in England was 5ft 9in (175.3cm) tall and weighed 13.16 stone (83.6kg). The average woman in England weighed 11 stone (70.2kg) and was 5ft 3in tall (161.6cm).
My wife's 5'3" and definitely considers herself short. She doesn't weigh anything close to 70kg though.
I'm a couple of inches below the average male height but again I'd put myself firmly in the short category. |

Thank you. I know it’s a confidence issue, but when you’re told your weight is an issue from a young age, and then as an adult have people calling you fat on public forums when you call yourself curvy, or in private messages when they’re hateful, you kind of accept it. Trying to get beyond that mindset, and luckily Inked is very supportive. The first person to ever tell me I was pretty but too big was a loved family member, at 16 years old. Hard mindset to move, but will get there xx |

Can't even remember what box I ticked. Doesn't really matter - all my pictures are very recent and representative. Sadly, I've hooked enough catfish in my time to not want to do it to others.

It all depends on what you think if yourself. I listed myself as slim to start with because that's what I thought it was and though Athletic sounded arrogant. I still consider myself the slim side of athletic but it took a while to realise that |

And I haven't looked at men's stats, but apparently the average woman in the UK is a size 16 and has a 36DD bust. I found that rather interesting, as I would imagine many women of those sizes would probably not class themselves as average from what's been said.
Posh
Wow really?! I’m that size but an E not a DD and no way would I put average. Reading this I was actually thinking of changing from curvy to ample x
So many stats out there that prove perceptions wrong. As far as I can remember the last time I looked the average height of a woman in the UK is 5'3" but anyone I know that height thinks of themselves as a shortarse.
Yeah true and I’m nearly 5ft 10. A person who is a size 16 at 4ft 10 is obviously going to be a totally different shape. I don’t think these stats mean much really. "
I should also add, the average height is 5'3".... and clearly you're way over that. So as a size 16 with almost the average size boobs, that makes you average but taller so I guess your body shape is smaller than average when you take into account that your shape and that of an average height woman. Jeez Nora. That means that according to the fab scale you must be athletic. Change it, quick!

I think we all have our own perceptions on what’s athletic, slim, average etc, so perhaps just put down how we feel about ourselves? I put mine as average because it felt like a good middle ground option haha Miss pc |

"I put what I am, I’m average. I don’t have as defined curves anymore, as my waist is bigger, so my proportions aren’t right, so I don’t think of myself as curvy. To me anyone with a defined waist is curvy, whether a size 6 or a size 26, but it’s obviously subjective, and how you see yourself x
Viv xx
I think you're far too harsh about your body. Unfairly harsh.
Hard mindset to move, but will get there xx
It is a difficult mindset to change, I agree. I am not into women but you have a fabulous body. I've started to see mine far more positively since I've been here and taking photos. I may be ample, but I like my body for the first time. It's a good feeling. I hope you get there. X
Thank you, and I’m glad you like your body, it’s a very empowering feeling. I hope to like mine again too. It’s crazy as I take pics, but then find myself apologising to people that if they meet us, I’m chubbier in person, I’m just good at breathing in and clever camera angles. Really I shouldn’t feel that way, and hope l fully I won’t soon xx"
I hope you don't think you have to lose weight to like your body? No it's not good to be apologising to people - you're beautiful as you are x |

I changed mine to Large a few months ago from reading a few body size threads on here. I'm not curvy as I'm pear shaped and then the people I saw that said ample, I thought well I'm bigger. And fabulous kind of suggested that I liked my body shape. So large is where I'm staying |

I clicked fabulous because there wasn’t a “oh darling I am an absolute unit, but warm n wet in the right places and certainly humourous handful” even though fabulous explains ever single one if on here
I wish there was an “I’m me, take a look at my pictures if I cause a rumble below then message because I’m more than just a physical size” button |

Can’t believe there’s no “dad bod” or “potato shaped” option……. |

"Should 'body type' be removed from the account info 'must fill ins' then?
It's so open to interpretation (and disinginuity) it just isn't very useful"
Not really, it is people just whingeing about nothing. If the profile has a clear photo of a near as dammit full length shot. The body shape category chosen is irrelevant. You like what you see or you don't. The same people will argue what is classed as well endowed etc |

The best option would be to have it free format so you can type in what you think rather than being pigeon holed. I'd opt for "lardy arse" as a good one for me at the moment! |

"I was clearly having a good day when I filled it in as I have put 'athletic', but I would probably go for 'average' now, not least as lots of guys on here who class themselves as 'athletic' are in much better shape than I am!"
I'd definitely agree your physique is athletic. Athletic to me doesn't mean cut or shredded with 4% body fat. For me the difference between a slim body and an athletic one is a body that is clearly shaped by exercise rather than simply not being overweight. I don't work out so don't have a particularly muscular upper body like you but I do run a lot and that is obvious on my legs. I don't believe it is possible to have an athletic physique without training regularly in an athletic discipline.
Obviously this is only my opinion, there are people who I would say are slim and look as though they do nothing more athletic than put the bins out who feel they tick this box. Equally there are guys with fantastic musculature who in everyday life I would say had a body builder physique rather than an athletic one but given the lack of choices on this site agree that athletic is the best descriptor.

Thanks, mate - appreciate that! And if the forum will forgive the love-in, definitely the right descriptor for you too, imho! |
