Just thought I’d start a thread for Download as it’s less than 6 months away… I can’t wait to be back in a field listening to great music!

Who else is going this year?

And those that are going, who’d be interested in a social meet?

I know my friends wannaseeusnaked will probably go. They love it. They went to the pilot festival this year when they tested it post covid.

Last year’s got cancelled. I haven’t seen who is in the line up for this year? Or is it same bands transferred? "

Some changes… Kiss, Iron Maiden and Biffy Clyro headlining

That's true for some festivals with a younger crowd but I've always found download to be a good mix of ages.

As long as you stay out of the blue campsite!!

Me and a couple of mates walked there back in the 80's one night when it was Monsters of Rock. Staggered out of The Rockhouse, Derby at about 3 am , thought it was a good idea at the time

Being as I'll be 60 in a few weeks, don't think I'll be attempting that again anytime soon

Agree, that's why its better than any other music festival. Me and my friends first went with my mates dad and his mates. They were going for Aerosmith and Whitesnake. We liked Thunder and Quireboys. Poison were genuinely great and drew the females.

Finances won't stretch to it this year..

But Download is an excellent festival.

Top tip...

If you don't want to camp, hotel in Derby, Nottingham or Leicester.

Skyline bus is 24/7 and is about 20 mins walk from site at East Midlands airport.

You can get a hot shower and a comfy bed and be refreshed for the next day.

UK festivals are a rip off.

I much prefer the European ones. Generally much cheaper with better line ups, better weather, better food and better facilities.

Definitely one of the reasons Im a big fan of Bloodstock - I've never felt it was just a money-making corporate monster like Download is. I dont feel I'm being fleeced at Bloodstock.

Missin’ Yo’ Kissin’

Bloody hell, couldn't they get other festival headliners? Maiden & Kiss have done it before... Change the record & be a bit more inventive promoters!

I'd have thought other bands would have been biting at the bit to headline after Covid & sitting on their arses doin' diddly-squat?

I've seen Maiden live - preferred their music when it was Dianno in the band any way.

I've got no intention to see Kiss live despite having a fair few albums of theirs.

I'm surprised by Biffy Clyro headling... Really? Volbeat a bit low in the order?

There are a few bands like The Darkness; Black Label Society; Volbeat.

Sadly, not enough bands to tempt me. I'm a bit disaponted realy.....

The originally planned golf weekend has gone belly up. Currently attempting to convince a fellow metal fan this is the appropriate solution for the disappointment. Agree that there's lots of interesting bands lower down the bill.

This may seem strange to some, but an awful lot of people don’t actually go for the headliners…

With 4 stages over 3 days there are plenty of bands that can appeal to people.

As someone else has mentioned above.. there are some great acts lower down the bill that you may not have listened too before….

If the headliner is all you’re looking at a festival for then a festival isn’t for you.

Personally I get to see 10-15 bands I’m already interested in every year, plus discover at least 5-10 new acts to listen to that I may have overlooked or just never come across otherwise.

Yes, the headliner repetition is an issue, but for £250 you’re still able to see at least 30-40 bands over the weekend. That’s less than a tenner an act in a climate where a 5000 person venue is charging £40-50 for a 2 act show, or you’re paying over £80 for an arena with maybe 3 acts.

Add this to the get together of mates you maybe haven’t seen in months, the new friends you can make and the generally great atmosphere…

It’s a no brainer for me

Creeper, there first EP's and debut album was really promising. The distilliers are usually a good draw. She's still hot. The post above caught a few gems. Sleep Token have a lot of promise.

I’ll be there!! Camping in my 6 man tent as a sign of my perennial optimism

Unfortunately not hugely fussed about the bands this year. I’ve not seen Maiden yet, so that’ll be fun. Was a massive Deftones fan back in the day, less so now but I’ve never seen them. Skindred are always awesome - saw them in a small venue last year and will be good to see them at download again. The Pretty Reckless are my guilty pleasure Descendents and Sepultura are going to be cool.

Getting Slipknot and Trivium on the only day I could go in 2019 was Broke a rib in the Trivium pit!

So yeah, a social would be great!

I forget what time it actually was when I reached the car park - but it was definitely early. Want to say something between 7am and 8am.

To be fair, I didn't really have to queue for the car park either, but getting in through the security gates was already getting busy.

Having said that, it was *nowhere near* as busy as when I returned to the car to collect my second load of gear and change into my wellies!
