You can get devices hold the onion in an enclosed space and you bash a thing on it and the onion gets chopped up.
They say you can chop them under water too.
Only certain varieties of onions have that effect so you might be able to only get the ones which don't. |

Use a sharp knife, a blunt knife makes the cells in the onion burst which in turn explodes the pesky tear inducing chemicals into the air. A sharp knife reduces this |

They very rarely make me cry these days, (cos I'm hard!)but it used to help to chop them next to a running cold tap.
Alternatively when you do chop them, do a load and freeze what you don't need til next time |

Just stand back.
The noxious gas in onions rises as you cut into them and gets into your eyes if you're standing above them looking down. All you need to do is chop them at arms length, and you'll be fine. |
