So 2.2 million chickens are eaten daily in the UK but my question is where are the chickens? Like you never see them. 2.2 mil is a lot of poultry. Like I know farms exist. I live on one but Jesus that’s a lot … so where ??? Is there secret underground bunkers for chickens or something |

"Is this a serious Q ....... cos there are answers.
It’s half serious yes. "
Well I'm only half answering then .....
Huge windowless sheds across the country. Fed to encourage fast growth. Never see daylight. Stand around in their own piss and shit with their feet burning in the ammonia. Grow until the shed is full to capacity and then at 6 weeks off they go to get their throats cut and provide cheap meat.
In short..... Inside where you can't see |

Omg that’s absolutely vile but what about “free range” you never see chickens out in the open. I know I watched an American documentary where they only need 1ft of space to be classed as free range but still what a joke. Makes me glad I’m flexitarian with a leaning towards vegetarian. |

Of course. They don't even have to remove the ones that die around them. |

Well that's OK then. For a moment there I was pondering the ethics of the agricultural industry. |

Free Range sounds lovely. A little investigation would reveal their 'range' to be 'free in' ......
If my memory serves me well ..... Free Range can mean in a barn ... just not caged. Even egg layers who get slightly better treatment are supposed to have an A4 size space for each chicken. Still hardly room to turn. Can't lay ...... off to slaughter. Many birds are still in cages or perch barns.
Males killed at birth they can't lay ..... hmmmmmmm that would lower the number of single men on FAB ...
I'd best not pursue that line cos i can't lay eggs and I'd be off to be boiled for cheap meat and bonemeal. |

No chickens are never treated “ok” not mused but I’ve seen chickens that have been given second chances are half starved and missing feathers. They are lucky to survive if they do get a home as the shock of suddenly being free can kill them. These are usually the egg production chooks. |

We take in ex battery hens, they all survived. Though the state of them arriving is horrendous poor things |
