No, at base, you’re correct - Amazons Alexa and Google’s Home Assistant are explicitly collecting a lot of data. They train their voice recognition on it and use it to profile us all to serve adverts in more fine-grained ways. There’s quite a bit of work out there that evidences this. However, they’re not fully Orwellian, it’s not political per se, just surveillance capitalism |

When I get in my car to go and collect my weekly shop, my iphone pings me the traffic conditions en route. How the hell does it know I'm going at that minute, or even that I'm in the car? |

location services Is turned on easy to just switch it off |

The annoying thing about them using my data to target ads is them showing me the same shit over and over.
They even show me ads of things I've already bought.
I like to see new stuff that might interest me, not hundreds of the same bloody thing.
