I thought I start a 'The best of...' series of places people have stayed at, dinned in, visited etc and liked. This one is about nice litle restaurants as I enjoy great food but increasingly more in a nice small quite environment rather than large commercial venues or pretentious ones (hands up I have done a few of those in the past). If you know of one, just reply and add to the list below with the name and area please. I know everyone likes different things but could be a good starting point for anyone looking for one. Thanks.

Perhaps not quite what I personally had in mind but your contribution is gracefully acknowledged. Thank you

I had an excellent meal in the Banff Springs, Aberdeenshire just before Christmas, can't praise it enough.

Always great to have a special dining experience that stays with you.

"Prawn on the lawn/barnaby's Padstow "

Thanks, it certainly has great reviews and looks small and intimate which is appealing.

Anyone can recommend a nice restaurant in Manchester that they may have been to recently? Perhaps Spanish or Italian or just modern European. Something relatively central but not too commercial, small and not that crowded. I have not been for a while and not as familiar with what is available as I used to be. If you have a little favourite one, please advise.

I loved Hawksmoor, but it was a few years ago I last went there.

And not a restaurant, but Northern Soul is THE best grilled cheese
