Now that the festivities are over and the battle of the bulge begins.

I've heard the keto diet is quiet good but unsure of how to start it off.

Anyone any tips.

I do try to exercise but currently doing 12 hour shift sue to staff shortages so the gym is a no go area at the moment.

Is that the best diet for you you think?

I’m a firm believer in finding what works for you. I’d say give it a try. If you don’t like it, look into an alternative.

How about halving your carb intake instead, far more sustainable in my opinion.

Swop potatoes, pasta and white rice for brown rice, cauliflower rice and leafy greens. Eat 85% dark chocolate instead of ordinary chocolate, have a handful of almonds instead of a biscuit and peanut butter (no sugar or palm oil) and an apple as a snack. Find alternatives to bread. That sort of thing

Best diet is one you can stick with for the long term.

But I quite like keto as a short term tool (occasionally I just like to eat a shit ton of meat). I just enjoy a slice of toast and marmite too much to go keto/carbless for too long.

Best way is to substitute lower calorie foods for whatever you have now.

Drink full fat , drink diet.

Like cheese? Have the lower fat version.

Have 4 coffees a day with a spoon of sugar and full fat milk? Use Stevia and semi skimmed/skimmed.

Do you like a curry? Go for a chicken saag rather than a creamy one.

Lots of small changes all add up.

Good luck with it.

Depends what “version” of keto you want to do

True keto is very low carbs (50g a day but it’s dependant on activity level)

Low to moderate protein (protein can convert to carbs within the body and take you out of ketosis)

And obviously plenty of fats

Lots of people do other stuff and call it “keto” though

And be aware the first few weeks can be rough but you do settle eventually

Good luck

Thanks All. My current job is being sat down all day so little chance to burn off the excess. However the above does help, bread is my weakness though so will try to cut that out mostly.

"The annual diet rankings from US News & World Report are in, and keto (aka the ketogenic diet) has been named the least-healthy diet of the year by a panel of health and nutrition experts. The Mediterranean diet was ranked first among 40 diets, which were judged on a range of factors, including healthiness, effectiveness for weight loss (short- and long-term), and how easy the diet is to follow."

Just seen this on a Yahoo healthstyle page. This might help.
