Just for fun in line with the scone thread. I thought I would ask all you lovely people 'do you call it a Barm, Cob, Roll, Bap or Batch'?
Me, I have always gone with 'barm' or 'barm cake' if it's a hard one like a tiger bread, I would say 'crusty cob'.
A lot of it is regional so I'm intrigued |

Bap or roll depending on the yums inside
Bacon bap, sausage bap.
Cheese roll, egg roll, chicken roll.
You can't have a sausage roll because that implies a sausage yum wrapped in pastry.
Or a bacon roll because it just does not sound the same.
So bap = hot yums. Roll - cold yums

"The shape, the crust, the texture, the region .....
All of those names are bread product specific.
Nothing to argue over.
Huge difference between an oven bottom bap and a top crusted cob......
"
Love it, thank you |

Well, Warburtons call them Barm Cakes and print it on the packaging. But it is a very specific shape, colour and is traditionally cooked at the bottom is the oven, hence the full name "oven-bottom barms". |

"Stottie?
Yes please..... I love stottie
That's a new one on me "
A stottie is not the same. It’s a different type of bread that is only usually available in the North East |

"Bap or roll. But if it's got chips in, then it's then called a butty."
Pmsl! This reminds me of the time I went in to the chipshop on Colchester High Street, and asked for a chip butty with gravy.......it really was like I was speaking a foreign language! |

Are you FROM Wigan?!
It's a barm. Bacon barm, sausage barm, pastie barm etc. The word "butty" is acceptable e.g chip butty. But never roll |

It's most certainly not a Yorkshire thing... it's a teacake in East Lancashire....
If it's got currants in it... its a currant teacake |
