First of all Happy New Year.

Straw poll: I was wondering which venues people have found most safe / comfortable for a first social meet.

McDonald's or a café.

If they can't have a decent conversation without mentioning sex I don't want to meet them again.

The local park (at day time, not at night).

I've had a few lovely walks with fellow fabbers in the past.

Hull

I live near quite a few bars and cafes so either one of those works for me.

A quiet restaurant, cafe, pub is the best for me. It affords time to have a good chat in comfortable surroundings.

South Lakes

I like public but quiet cafes, gives both parties some security and means a general relaxed conversation can happen. Saying that I have met for socials in my vehicle but after a lot of chatting and building of trust. I wouldn't ever want to meet someone in a situation they didn't feel comfortable with.

I prefer a coffee shop. No expectations beyond a cuppa and a cake, possibly x

Weather permitting...a coffee shop and sit outside or take away for a walk and chat.

End of coffee should be long enough for her to make her mind up.

Generally though, my meets have been at my house.

out in the sticks

A nice hotel on edge of town is great for a coffee and a chat.

Quiet, nice coffee shop or relaxed pub. Walks can be nice but somewhere erm... big. Spacious. Little coffee place. Not a small family orientated, very small park.
