So, I may have just been Dad dancing to The Elgins 'Heaven must have sent you' on the wireless

https://youtu.be/31bu6GLbyc4

It's one of them songs that gets the feet tapping, yet it's not that widely known

Having had a little snoop on Wiki, it only reached #50 in the US Billboard Charts and #3 in the UK Charts as a re-release

That got me thinking, had this song been released as a single at the time by a more well known / popular group, would it have made #1?

So, do we know any other songs that we think could have made number 1, had another artist released them?

How much is the success of a song is down to the popularity of the artist that releases it?

e.g. are Ed Sheeran songs popular because they are great or because Ed is riding his fame & popularity right now?

. Apologies for getting the year wrong. The fact that Band Aid kept Wham of number 1 was for a good cause.

Oooh I know 2….

The who… my generation… never got to no.1

Also… there are a whole bunch of Beatles songs you would have thought would have been a number 1 and never were… you would be surprised!!!

The quizmaster at my local use to have a round called number 1 or not… and use to slip in Beatles songs all the time
