Anyone remember the terrible winters of the late sixties / early seventies that people had to endure?

Yes and the ones in the late 50s and early 60s, In that period I was working in the construction industry and one year, can't remember which one, we broke up for the Christmas break and did not return until end of March, the ground was too hard to excavate, the quarries could not get the sand and gravel we wanted because the pits were frozen over. but nevertheless the postman still delivered, The milkman and the baker still go their deliveries out thanks to horse drawn floats,

People cleared the footpaths so we could safely walk to the shops.

The trains ran and the buses ran.

Minus 10 deg C was not uncommon.

Above all we coped.
