just received a utility bill addressed to Mr & Mrs X (my name) from a utility firm that I do not use. (Im also not married)
Thought this odd and couldnt get my head round it but on closer inspection of the letter it is actually intended for a neighbour who has an almost identical address to me but totally different name.
My only conclusion that I can draw from this is that they are using my name on utility bills and this bill that I have just opened has gone unpaid for quite some time and is very large. Could there be any other explanation ?? |

"I work for a utility company. My advice is call the company and query it."
Really...thought she should pay it.
Unless you pay random bills sent to you that are not yours then obviously you need to ring them and find out WTF is going on. |

The bill may well have a meter serial number on it! Check that it doesn't match your meter if is appropriate, utilities do get things wrong quite often!

My advise is to be careful when phoning the utility company! This happened to me, I'm in a flat and next door was rented out, they tried to have the bill charged to me, and when I phoned to querey it, they took my details over the phone, (and unknown to me, they used my details to update their records) They then said the onnus was on me, to prove the bill wasn't mine and a long drawn out argument then happened, so, give as little details about yourself as possible! |
