Some people use the wink as some sort of notification they are interested in you and saying its OK for you to get in touch if you wished.
However, everyone has their own interpretation of what a wink means to them.
It's the random friend requests without any exchanged written dialogue or when you have, no pre warning. I always think its polite to ask before you add. Just MHO. |

I normally use the wink as a way of saying I'm interested in that person. If I get a wink back then I'll send a message and go from there. Obviously this system is not universal so everyone may interpret this function differently |

"It's the random friend requests I don't understand "
I have two thoughts regarding this.
1) they have face pictures in their gallery so you can check them out and go from there.
2) they wanna see your naughty friends only pictures
3) they want a humungous friends list cos they're sooooooooo popular.

I have been winked at by a couple and a single female (strange I know) in the past week. Winked back then nothing.
Messaged both (friendly and polite) and messages deleted after reading.
Why bother if that's what your going to do??? |

Exactly us, if we get nothing back that's cool, saves on a message and sending face pics etc x |

We get winks from people 100 plus miles away - I think that's just "like your profile/pics"
If it's a wink from someone local that we like, we'll wink back, if it's a single man we get a message afterwards, if it's a couple or woman, we get nothing generally |

I think if you’re someone who gets huge amounts of winks then maybe you just ignore them and so I very rarely bother to send them unless it’s prompted by a thread in the forum where people option to that kind of thing, but I’ve no problem getting winks and do notice them as I maybe get about one every few weeks from someone I would be interested in, and I think it’s just that, an expression of interest, and I see it as an open door to message them. |

winks are a quick 'hey hello' and are cool if you feel someone might be inundated with messages. Might also be a 'poke' when someone has read a message. Generally this is meant to be about 'contacts' so any method is virtuous.
