Hypothetically, just suppose you had a few days off and we're messing around at home and discovered the cure for covid. You have two choices... You can gift it to humanity getting no money for it including media appearances and it goes out in days OR you can make millions but it will take a year to start production.

Gifting it was my first thought, that wouldn't necessarily mean everyone got one. If you made the money from it, it would be billions, you could set up a charitable organisation ensuring as many get it as possible. Not to mention other things like clean water etc.

Call me a conspiracy theorist but I'm sure they already have cures for most things or could find cures if they really wanted.

But surely there is more money in endless vaccines than there is in a "cure"

Like wise with cancer. To much money in the treatment of cancer for big pharma than an actual cure

Reply privately, Reply in forum +quote or View forums list

By (user no longer on site)  over a year ago

Difficult because if I gift it then someone is still going to make millions producing it and keep all the profits to themselves and still probably roll it out slowly to maximise their profits so unfortunately I'd take the money and use it in other areas to do good

It’s called healthcare for a reason. It isn’t a billion dollar industry for nothing. They don’t make money from curing you they make money from keeping you in a Constant subscription of care. It’s well known now that cannabis oils can cure cancer, we cured our mums with it. Yet they still letting people die and cancer charities taking millions a year in donations. Use your brains folks. They don’t give a fuck about you.

It wasn't meant to say no rich people are generous. I think many philanthropists drive healthcare and aid in the third world and do enormous good with their often deserved wealth. It just doesn't work as well as a scenario. It is totally hypothetical except, interestingly astra zeneca have come out badly from offering their vaccine as not for profit.

Patent it at £0.02p per dose, then give the patents for free to other companies to produce.

Covers my production costs & it gets out quicker

I'd sell it to a big pharma company then use the money to help people with little money.

I don't like calling people "The Poor".

There's a reason that the UK and US made all the great jabs... incintive of the free market. Without a price for the jab, how do people get paid to research and design vaccines? The people working in "big pharma" are probably just like us, good and bad, but not totally a bunch of heartless ghouls.

I totally agree. It takes a lot of investment. They also do a lot of good.

^ this is genius. After all, someone could end up stealing the "recipe" and make millions and just be greedy and do feck all.

At least with OPS idea... Lots of good things can be done x

If it takes a year to start production if I am on the make then it will take a year to produce if I am NOT on the make.

So if we are going to have to wait a year for production in any case - I'll take the cash thanks.

The Q is flawed.

Ill take the money. And then make government officials who've flaunted the lockdown rules pay through the nose for the cure and make more money off them. Meanwhile everyone else can get it for free
