Cracking Up !

I was wondering about something that often occurs to me in serious social situations.

When I'm at a funeral, wedding etc, I will see something, that wouldn't normally amuse me, and it absolutely cracks me up.

I may just smirk to myself but if I happen to make eye contact with someone I may fall about in uncontrollable hysterics.

It's like a form of turrets and as hard to control as a sneeze.

Is it just me? R

Not as bad as you Ric but I do start to picture scenarios and find myself smirking or making a comment and making other people laugh at the most inappropiate of moments

I'm the same, I'm always laughing at really really inappropriate times. I've even had to leave management meetings because I've got the giggles over something stupid. The last time was because a really dull and stiff colleague had a mug that said 'I heart to party' on, it absolutely had me in bits. Maybe one day I'll be serious....

It's quite a common phenomenon. It is often a nervous reaction to having to be serious.

i think its human nature to find something to lighten the mood, trying to ensure that your reaction doesnt seem inappropriate to others or offend them is the key though

It certainly is in my case, it's nearly cost me a charge of contempt of court before now.

Although it does come in handy in what could be life threatening situations if you burst out laughing even when you should be bricking it. R

The seriousness of the occasion seems to make it worse. When you just can't stop giggling... and the huffing noises of you trying not to giggle makes you laugh even more... and you're crying because you're laughing so hard.... and then you don't know why you're laughing anymore but you can't stop and it just hurts...

I love that!!

I was on a training course one afternoon and we were all sat round on chairs with arms, someone opposite me had a white board market on his arm and it fell off - I sniggered, he looked at me and sniggered too and before long we were both in fits of laughter and couldnt stop - everytime we looked at each other we started again - the tutor was not impressed and sent us both out the classroom where we stood in the corridor and howled with laughter - she then told us to go back in the room and we both started again ............. my sides were really hurting and tears were pouring down my face - I dont think we pulled ourselves together for the whole afternoon
