I've list nearly two stones so far but getting very bored with my evening meal I seem to rotate the same 5 dishes.
Problems are I don't like fish except salmon and needs to be on a budget.
Any ideas would be very very welcome xx |

You can pick slimming world books up off eBay if you don't want to attend classes...
I've just bout The Hairy Bikers diet book and its brill! It's about £7 in Asda... It mainly focuses on calorie controlling. Not sure what diet you have already followed...
Congratulations and good luck x |

Quorn, meat substitute.
Cheaper and way lower fat content that real meat.
easy and fast to cook and can be used straight from the freezer for quick tasty meals. Like bolognaise, 'chicken' bits or fillets make speedy curries with a jar of sauce or stir fries with lots of fresh veg.xx |

My favourite salmon dish to cook at home.
A nice thick piece of salmon, skin on, scales off.
Marinade the fish in a sauce made out of light soya sauce, sugar, rice wine, rice vinegar, chopped garlic and ginger for about 30min.
Pan-fried skin side down first until crispy, then turn over. Do not over cook the fish, as it needs to be returned to the pan to finish off later.
Lift fish off the pan.
De-glaze the pan with the marinade and simmer gently until reduced slightly.
Return the fish flesh side down back into the pan, and continue to heat together with the sauce until it thickened sufficiently to coat the back of a spoon.
Add chopped spring onions to pan.
While cooking the fish and sauce, boil some rice.
For vegetable, I like to eat wilted iceberg lettuce with a dash of good quality oyster sauce.
Chop up an iceberg lettuce, lightly dressed with vegetable oil and a sprinkle of salt, microwave on high for about 3 to 4 min, depending on power output of the microwave.
The leaves should still be slightly crunchy. Dress with oyster sauce.
Plate up rice first, then a pile of lettuce, then fish on the side, flesh side down, drizzle the sauce onto the skin side of the fish and over rice.
Yum yum! |

"Well done you!
I can recommend getting a slimming world recipe book... the food is really nice & it doesn't leave you feeling hungry.

I e not looked into the slimming world stuff but I'd avoid weight watchers stuff , read the back of the packed and see all the nasty stuff they put in it.
Also be wary of any thing that says low fat, it could still be full of fat but just not as much . |

It really depends what kind of diet you've already been following. I'm on a restricted carb diet, which works for me. No carbs after 1pm. I just eat lots of protein and veg. Not a lot of fruit either (sugar).
I found slimming world cook books quite handy, because they do a lot of recipes that are just protein, or at least with carbs that can be easily substituted.
However, this diet won't work for everyone. |

Thanks everyone some handy tips there.
I'm currently calorie counting I find this easier for me then weight watchers and slimming world plus this I'd a long term choice so don't want to count points etc the rest of my life to me it's about making healthily choices.
At a real standstill now but partly my willpower and allowed too many naughty things back in too often.
Good luck to everyone who is trying to she'd a few pounds xx |

I'd go along with that. There is nothing worse than ritual eating for piling on the pounds - specially when you're doing it to keep the peace like I did for far too long.
Eat when you're hungry. If you're not hungry - don't eat. And just keep an eye on the carbs (sugars) - they are the real killers. |

I tell you a really nice one that provides all the pleasure of a hearty autumn/winter meal but with half the calories. Have a look at Nigel Slater's turkey and squash bake. Yum. In fact, talking about it has made me peckish. |

Can't go wrong with a dinner, heavy on the veggies! And yeah, replace meat with Quorn, low in fat, high in protein, and really tasty even without loads of seasoning (although I would say that, being a veggie!)
I'm struggling with interesting meals at the mo. Had to cover my salad in sauce last night just to get it down Gunna fill the freezer with soup for the winter |

Have a look at the channel 4 food website - they have loads of recipes including ones on a budget.
Also, buy something in the shop called Bouillon stock powder - the purple tub is reduced salt and the better one to buy. It's very versatile and I've used it in curries, spag boll, chilli con carni etc. It really gives your food an extra depth of flavour, costs around £1.70 and lasts for ages.
Another thing you can do to liven up a meal is to stab your meat (this works great for a roast chicken too) and rub in a little olive oil before sprinkling garlic powder and dried herbs all over, then cook as normal. |

But most of us sit on our asses all day anyway so we barely excerpt any energy. |

Laine's suggestion of using quorn is a fabulous idea as it is so much lower in calories and fat than meat. Difficult perhpas if you are a real meat lover but for the sake of occasionally swapping it you d be surprised how much you can save.
Well done for achieving your weight loss - and best of luck in future xx |

Great responses thanks everyone.
Using quorn for the first time tonight so see how that works.
The 5 meals I kept repeating are stir fry, salads of various sorts, home made spag Bol all from fresh, Cajun chicken fajitas and normally steak with veg or roast chicken and veg.
Feel like weight loss has slowed down but know that's quite normal after a while xxx |

try making chilli instead of spag bol. also keep a food diary, write down everything u eat. also drink lots of water, sometimes u think you are hungry, but in fact u are only thirsty. i lost 3stones last year, counting calories, and still had occasional treats |
