Ibuprofen works for sore throats, takes down inflammation. Sudocreme on your nose will help with dryness, though you will have to limit that to when you are alone, as it can be most unattractive ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
There is a reason I refer to children as plague rats! They will find cold strains you have never been exposed to, bring them home as a little gift, and then do it again at least once a month.
You can mask the symptoms with drugs but you can't get around the rime frame for a cold. Only another 200 strains for you to experience
Get better soon. (Caring face smiley) |

I wish there was as I am sick of mine, and I have the flu jab every year!
Also wishes I could go into deep hibernation right now!
Hope you feel better soon, and I tend to put vaseline on my nose to save me looking like Rudolph, also alternate between ibuprofen and paracetamol every 4 hours.

Some facts about the common cold:
1. Women get more colds than men. Not because we are women but because we tend to have more interaction with children.
2. Children get between seven and ten colds a year. They are plague rats (lovely but infectious).
3. The blocked nose is swelling of erectile tissue... I tried to make that sound sexy but I think I may have failed.
4. Washing your hands is really your best defence. You can catch colds through your eyes, mouth and nose, but not through kissing.
5. It takes 48 hours for the cold to appear. By then you may have forgotten where you picked it up.
6. The older you get the fewer colds you catch. By the time you are in your 70s you will have experienced about 200 colds and so will be near the end of the number of strains out there to catch.
7. You never catch the same cold twice.
8. Keep hydrated and treat the symptoms and just let it run its course. |

"well been long time i had cold, maybe becoz i eat alot garlic and onions cook in my food "
We find this too. Also chilli (very high in vit C)
I've had 2 colds in the last 5 years and I put it down entirely to my diet including lots of the above. |

Keep off any type of cold drink. Always drink plenty but make sure you balance the drinks between luke warm and hot.
As stated above eat onions, garlic, vegetables... thick homemade soups if your appetite has gone walkabout...
Oh!! Not forgetting a hot toddy every evening ![](/icons/s/wink.gif) |

Big bottle of Yates' Aussie White Wine (see sherry aisle in supermarket), make blobs with hot water, lemon and sugar to taste. Do the whole bottle in, one after the other then go to bed. You will sweat like a pig, sleep like a baby and the cold will be gone in the morning. Only recommended on Fri / Sat night.Works every time
