Depending on the type of cough you have. If it's very mucousy try a decongestant you spray up your nose, does help with phlegm. Propping yourself up with pillows so you're not on your back can also help.
Dry cough good old fashioned cough syrup will help too. |

Lots of warm liquids.. small sips often.
Gargling with salted very warm water.
Warm compress around the throat.. I used to wear scarf permanently. Or cuddle the microwaved wheat bag .
I enjoy spicy food when I'm sick just tonclear it all out. At least that's how it works in my head.
Thyme infused hot water with honey . |

Ahhh that’s awful when you don’t get much sleep it just makes everything worse. Night Nurse is good for those kind of nights, hopefully you’ll get a better sleep tonight x |

Thanks everyone. I got a little bit of a better sleep last night but not by much. Fingers crossed it chills the fluff out soon because I don't want to be coughing my guts up trying to eat Christmas Dinner |

"I'd say I got around 2 hours of broken sleep last night. A cough to wake the street up and some new abs formed in the process. I tried codeine last night to suppress symptoms but it didn't work for long
Husband says come to the back of your throat works what are your suggestions? Yes, I know you're not Dr's. But if someone is willing to pat my upper back all night then I'll maybe consider a suitable gesture to say thank you "
I haven’t got any advice or suggestions but I wouldn’t take codeine if you’re not sleeping well. I can be wired for hours off that stuff |

Codeine makes me drowsy so I'm able to use it as pain relief (I did for 2 years) and to help me drift off to sleep. It's also been reported as a cough suppressant although some studies suggest it's just the placebo effect buttt I'm at my wits end right now and I'll try almost anything |

Oh, you poor love. I would strongly recommend Jakemans honey & lemon menthol sweets. They’re in a yellow packet, usually 2 for £1, and you can get them in many pharmacies and supermarkets. They were a lifesaver when I had Covid, as the cough I had was horrendous. They don’t cure the cough obviously, but stop you coughing whenever you’ve got one in your gob! PM if you can’t find them and I’ll happily send you some. Get well soon x |

I must have a low tolerance or something. Last time I had it I was practically off my face staring at the ceiling all night |

Avoid anything that causes phlegm like chocolate, don’t clean your teeth to close to bed, avoid temperature changes, drink hot water with honey, lemon slices and ginger, or boil lemonade and add the honey, gargle with salty water, try a couple of the cold and flu tabs that are also for coughs to try and make you sleepy and perhaps try steaming your face it might help open your airways, wishing you luck for tonight. |
