Woking

Personally I'd get a nice bit of woodland property in one of the northern states, but that kind of solitude may not be for everyone.

Go to Canada instead, it’s cheaper, the people are friendlier, smarter, you’re less likely to get shot and the beer is better

To be fair I lived there when I was 11-13 but I suspect it will still be cheaper than most US States

Away with the faeries

The Pacific Northwest is scenic, temperate (mostly) and culturally and politically diverse.

At least it used to be.

Have you visited any of the states to get a sense of what you might prefer?

One of the benefits of living out there is often being a short road trip away from a completely different environment.

The downside could be lack of access to affordable healthcare, but if you work for a decent company then that may help immensely.

I'm considering Texas since the silicone valley is moving there and the opportunities it can present. Healthcare can be an issue but right now I'm thinking about immigration.

My friend moved to Boston in 2009

Since then he has tried stints in Washington DC, Houston, Hawaii, San Francisco and Seattle, but has now settled down in small town West Virginia

He's now married, is a US Citizen and living his best life

I think a masters from Harvard and having Microsoft on his CV has helped him greatly though

The South represents slav** and bigotry.

Is this what you call relaxed and chilled?

Recently a black jogger was killed for jogging on a street in Georgia which is a southern state.

Saying to a dark skin person " go to deep south, they will love you there"

Was going to suggest Texas. Looks like big things are happening in that state and looks to be some interesting opportunities.

I havent followed any of the changes made as a result of brexit, but as an educated guess, brexit shouldnt make a difference. Its moving from the UK to the US, not into Europe

Texas is great. Spent a fair amount of time in Houston. Generally a friendly place and loads of opportunity. Only problem was the humidity. Struggle with high temps at the best of times - but Texas was something else. It is a large state and vary varies so not all like that, but something to consider. Lots of the US is sadly going to face more and more extreme weather so that’d be a bug factor for me choosing a destination.

Good luck!

Funnily enough I’ve heard a comparison made between Yorkshire and Leeds on more than one occasion. Not a direct comparison a poles apart in terms of geography, economy and weather etc. however there is a slightly ‘separatist’ buggest county/state ‘we’re a but different’ vibe that are similar between Yorkshire and the Lone Star State. Another similarity is that the people speak their mind, get to the point and don’t mince their words. Generally friendly and down to earth though. On both counts .
