Admiration from afar
Jump to: Newest in thread
Inspired by some conversations I’ve had this week on here, and also by my reaction to a forum post earlier . Do you notice people on here that you don’t converse with but you just appreciate their existence, their being and their contribution?
Are you ever tempted to drop them a message and just say you liked a particular post, or noticed their general contribution and wanted to say hi/thanks?
It might not be apparent on the surface, it’s easy to feel ignored or insignificant but someone on here fully appreciates your contributions to the forums and wants great things for you.
Ps that someone isn’t me. I think you’re all ****s |

There are definitely people on here who make brilliant, level-headed points with whichever thread they contribute to and argue their point really well. I never tell them over messages though because it's unsolicited and I never really tell them on the thread either because it doesn't really add anything of value to the thread as a whole. |

Theres a few on the forum i feel that way about, for various reasons obviously.
Though sometimes i feel its best just to appreciate from afar, no need to mingle with everyone i have an appreciation for. |

I perve from afar but actually if I love someone's contributions I message them and tell them so. I'm not shy about that. Had some wonderful conversations as a result. |

There are a few forumers whose posts I'd look out for...
And a few I think would be cool to meet for a cuppa or bevvie.
Generally keep it to myself tho unless there's a compliment thread. |

9 times out of 10 I just message. Not looking for an opportunity for something more but just wanting to appreciate their input. Sometimes it leads to further conversation, sometimes it just ends with a smile and thanks. Both are okay In fact I just did that yesterday.

"There's people/ posts I like and appreciate but I wouldn't really message them as they probably think I'm a dickhead. "
I tried that.....and I think they thought I was dickhead |

I agree with this. It’s a weird one to broach |

Well done to you guys and girls who are brave enough to just come out with it. Definitely agree with the post above where it was said that sometimes it leads to lovely conversations and sometimes just a thank you and a smile. Even better that some of you have met people off the back of that initial message.
I remember I sent someone a message to compliment their eyebrows recently, and thought I must have come across like a right loony
I’m glad I’m not the only one who sees it and I’ll be sure to make sure I’m more forward in sharing my appreciation |

No I can't say I have. If someone intrigues me I like to try and interact with them. Sometimes they don't want to and that's fine but sometimes it leads to a really interesting conversation or even a good friendship |

If I’m browsing a thread and see a comment I find resonates with me or my way of thinking I’ll post on the thread a ‘well said’ or something like that, there’s some very wise advice given and some from those more experienced on the scene than I am, if I see a non judgemental, well thought and articulated post it will always catch my eye, nothing wrong with a little gratitude towards it.
Rare that I’d send a private message to tell them as it’s a bit unsolicited for me xx |

We both really enjoy the forums . It gives people a chance to express themselves and after a while you may get an inkling into the personalities of some of the protagonists. These is a lot of good banter on here as well as some more contentious conversations. But there is nothing wrong with a mass-debate (see what we did there). The only thing we would say is be careful as they can be quite addictive. |

Yes, definitely. I've messaged posters before in such circumstances - it's clear that I'm not doing it because I fancy them/think that they're attractive but because I appreciate their way with words. Or the non bias/non fallacy laden approach they have in responding to a debate.
I like the myriad of posters we have on here and I'd like to think I'm able to remove my own bias enough to appreciate a post from a poster, regardless of who the poster is. I do have a habit of just posting I like x, y and z about someone's post. |

You could message me and send me an unsolicited crisp pic and I wouldn't think you're a dickhead |

There's quite a few people whose posts I notice. I especially like those who make me laugh, but some of the more serious sensible posts get my notice also.
I've never messaged first myself but a few have messaged us and have led to friendly conversations. I'd say I've made a few good friends. I really enjoy chatting to those from the forum.
Have yet to meet anyone from the forum, but perhaps in the new year |

Yes! I've spoken to a few people I wouldn't usually speak to and enjoyed getting to know them. We seem to bounce off each other
If anybody is wanting to chat with me *tumble* then I'm always happy to. I'm not mean, I promise |

Had the same experience & I don’t condone bypassing filters |

I used to, and chatted to some lovely people because of it. I spend very little time in here these days, I don't recognise anyone or see enough to really appreciate their thoughts or wordsmithery. |

There's loads of people I like forum-wise, but haven't specifically said to. It's nice having a wee interaction on a thread, but I feel like private conversations just get awkward if they're not heading towards meeting so I can be a bit stand-offish. It would be good to just show appreciation of a post with a wee like button though. |
