"In relative terms, rather than absolute cost, mine was buying my sister a CD Walkman.
It was £125, which was the same as five weeks' rent at the time. Or half the cost of my car.
"

"It's not about how much you spend on a present it should be about how much thought you put into it.
"
that is true, I bought an ex gf bath bombs and she hated it, guess I should've put more thought into it..it was a last min thing tbh |

A forum post about the amount of thought you put into a present would be a bit sheizen though |

You're a good parent, hope he appreciated it and passes it on. *story time*, I joined the army to get a driving license because me and my family couldn't afford it..11yrs later and I'm still in..mission failed successfully. |

A pre-owned Fiat 500 which with Vehicle Tax,M.O.T., Breakdown cover and Insurance came in at just over £3500.
This vehicle was for a very dear lifelong friend who for various reasons found herself without a car. |

A £100 digital camera for my boyfriend. We'd been together about 5 years and really it felt like something I was buying for us.
Broke up with him 6 months later. Wish I'd asked for the camera back |

For me, the cost of a present is irrelevant, some of the most wonderful gifts that I've received haven't cost very much at all, it's the thought that's gone into them that matters. Plus, expense is relative, for some, £10 is a lot to spend, for others, £2k is nothing to blink at.
The most...significant present that I bought for someone didn't cost a massive amount in the grand scheme of things, but I spent weeks choosing it. A hand made, to order, to size, sterling silver "close fitting necklace" (can't use the exact word ) . I could have spent 10 times the amount but it wouldn't have made a jot of difference to the significance of it.
