I was living at home, I'd been out the night before and was somewhat hungover so not overly pleased that my mother felt the need to wake me to tell me the "news". Quite why she thought I'd be interested is beyond me and I'm still as underwhelmed by her death as I was then. |

Was living in Paris. Had been out for a meal at one of my favourite restaurants... which was pretty close to where the crash was. Didn't find out about it until the following evening when watching the news on tv.
Don't piss off the queen. I bet that, after those topless photos were published, Kate Middleton was shitting herself every time she went through a tunnel! ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

We had been out and 4 of us had come back to mine and had a dvd on. We where busy chatting and didnt realize it had finished and swapped to the television. It was around 3am the first bulletin came on and it just said diana had been hurt in a car crash, then it said she had broken her arm(god knows where that came from). Then about an hour later it said she had been killed |

Was at Butlins on hols with hubby and kids, spent most of the night complaining about the state of the room. We eventually got them to reclean it and give us clean bed linen so went off to bed.
Next morning the kids woke us up saying that Diana had died, but we didn't take too much notice until we saw news coverage on TV.
The funeral was on the following Saturday and we were on our way home, amazing, the M5 was empty which was great but it also meant that there was no possibility of being able to stop off for lunch as everywhere was closed, so we just hurried home and had an early dinner. |

I was in Paris. I was a coach driver at the time. I was loading the luggage (next morning) when the tour leader told me. I didnt believe that it was true until we got closer to Calais and was able to pick the BBC on the radio.

I was dog-sitting at my mates while her and her boyfriend were at a Game Fair...my then husband rang first thing in the morning and told me to put the telly on - it was on all channels; sad news but I never worshipped at the altar of St Diana |

"Taking a nightime tour of Paris in my old Fiat Punto, some idiot in a flash motor bumped into me. "
The French had a joke at the time that went along the lines of "It's better to be called Mercedes are drive around in a Dyane then the other way round" - it works better if said with French pronunciation than English.
(a Dyane was a type of Citroën 2CV... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citro%C3%ABn_Dyane) |

Back then I used to sleep with the radio on. Can remember vividly waking suddenly just as the news reader made the first announcement. That was it - got up and sat in front of the TV for the rest of the night/day feeling horror/pity/sadness/anger etc.
Went over to Paris on the 5th anniversary of her death and laid flowers at the Eternal Flame. Have been to Althrop House and had a few words across the lake to the memorial statue and been several times to the Memorial Fountain by the Serpentine.
Very much a fan - she was a lovely woman, met her a couple of times and we even had our children around the same time...lol |

I never new until the morning and was on the radio ..... was a bell or big Ben ring out and them said she died in a car crash ......... I find some of that still strange .. why at the side of the road ambulance stopped and not take her straight away to hospital ? was she having a baby ? was she going to marry ..? why had her driver been drinking ? why was he going so fast? |

I was at home OH came home at 5 am from newcastle and told me she had been in an accident dont think it had been let out she had died at that time.
I got up and put on Tv and cried all day. I still have many video tapes of the week including her funeral and a stack of news papers..
we took m mother to london at 5 am on the day after funeral and walked round kensington gardens..the flowers were stacked bunch on bunch the smell was incredible candles photos the place was crowded . we went to westminster and the wreaths and flowers were there to view .. A boxing glove in cream flowers from frank bruno..and many others then on to clarence house we couldnt believe the flowers . We have some lovely photos. sad day.
9/11 .. we had been shopping put on TV at around 1 to see the tragedy unfold. I thought it was a film at first..another day glued to the news in total shock. |

No idea as I have no idea when it happened.I do remember what I was doing when a far more important person in my life ie a friend died though. I was with him and trying to stop him from dying.

I had fell asleep on the settee with the tv on. The news broadcast woke me up. I woke the misses up to tell her. It was very strange the next day. I just remember seeing a local undertaker on the Sunday morning. As he walked past me he said, "just waiting for the call". What a sense of humour! |

Was asleep but woke at my usual time to find half the t.v. network`s schedules thrown out of the window and coverage from the crash scene etc. Even QVC had suspended selling for the day! Was on a charter train going to Holyhead on the day of the funeral. Never seen the country so devoid of people as we passed through! |

It is very difficult to administer effective CPR in a moving ambulance. If she went in to cardiac arrest on the way to the hospital stopping would have been by far the best way of trying to save her. |

I was 16 just turned and had my first drinking binge at an engagement party. Waking up to my radio with a massive hang over I was dismayed that all tv and radio programs were canceled for what is a every day occurrence. A fatal car accident. Sad sure two people died, but something that is a daily occurrence and felt that life goes on regardless.

Especially when they had to resort to literally massaging her heart directly to try and keep her alive! |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
I had just got in from a friend's birthday party and put the television on to help me get off to sleep just as the first newsflash came in. I was up watching television the rest of the night and then called my mother as soon as it was light to let her know before she went to church. She was a big Diana fan.
I started a new job that Monday and was working from home. I had This Morning on and watched my replacement in my old job describing how sad the charity world was to lose her. |
