Little independent ones always best especially those that are on the quiet side, with more relaxing areas and newspapers and books to read. Failing that, probably Costa and mostly a drive through. I can't stand all the noise in some of them and people think it's OK to treat them like their own place, shouting screaming or having their children running amok. Most places these days are so noisy, no chance of relaxing and having a nice drink and a bit of peace and quiet. Sorry, I think I am showing my age! ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

See I don't buy the whole independent is automatically best. In my experience independent little coffee shops tend to either be very good or very mediocre. Oddly it tends to be the mediocre ones that expect support just because they are small rather than actually being good.
Some absolutely fantastic indy coffee shops around the North East.
Of the big chains I do like starbucks but I only drink black coffee. Not a fan of Costa or Nero, not awful but pretty average. Tim Hortons are good as well, although their donuts are disappointing compared to the Canadian ones. |
