I prefer my own home-made mince pies, but seeing as my oven has given up the ghost and I doubt I will get it replaced before Christmas, then Tesco's Finest it is!

I like mince pies but I refuse to buy the ones that don't have a full top cover, the ones with stars or a snowflake cover are usually cheap and shallow filled. Marks and Spencer deep filled every time.

Recent taste test in the Guardian I think said Sainsbury’s best range were the best. May go out and try them later.

I like Asda and Greggs currently.

All those saying their Mum's mince pies are the best - lucky you. My Mother's were like an ice-hockey puck with a bit of sweet brown in the middle. She was a lovely woman, a wonderful Mum, but a terrible cook

For those that do not like a sweet mince pie, try making some “Petit Pâté de Pezenas” Made in southern France in the town twinned with Market Drayton they are an excellent alternative. There are a few recipes online but the best I have used is Raymond Blanca version. However not suitable for vegans and vegetarians as the contain meat(normally Lamb, jogger or mutton). The flavour is wonderful. Fiddlely to get right but well worth the effort!
