I'm going to bite the bullet on Monday and give up smoking. Any tips on how to stop myself from sticking a fag in my mouth (so to speak)
Is anyone else giving up? Perhaps us newly converted non smokers could offer some words of encouragement to each other |

Put the money you normally spend on fags to one side, you'll be amazed how quick it mounts up to a mega treat for yourself
Keep yourself occupied, I used to have a pen between my fingers and nibbled/ sucked the end of it (a cock will do!)
Try any of the quit smoking methods to help, patches, pills, gum, etc.
I've heard these e-cigs are pretty good, but never had them when I packed in so can't comment on them myself
Good Luck!!! |

I can recommend the e-cigs wholeheartedly - 6 weeks and only one cig - and hated the taste! Also saves me about £6 a day!!!
Good luck!!! |

I gave up a fortnight ago and have been ok so far (though I have had a hairy moment or two). I've used Niquitin Minis, the little suckable lozenges, which have been realy good......Best of Luck |

To All Non smokers out there...
In a display of camaradery we should volunteer to snog an ex smoker every day in October just to show them that snogging is so much better with a minty fresh tongue.
Any ex smokers out there, just ask xx |

No amount of advice will make you stop. It has to come from you. I've had endless attempts to stop that have ended in failure. Then I managed to not have one for ten months, not a single puff. Then I started again. There's no so thing as an 'ex smoker' being a 'non smoker' The vast majority are one bad day from being back on 40 a day
Or maybe that's just me
Good Luck |

Hi guys! It's nearly 1.40 in the morning, just come in from a night on the tiles and probably a bit a bit pissed.....
But I've got to say I've been really touched by your comments in that they're non-judgemental but really positive!
I joined the site thinking it was just for shags but found it to be a real community. I've read some posts and have been really moved by the stories people have to tell.
Group hug to you all.... Going to bed now....will probably be embarrassed by what I've just said....but fuck it! We're all human!!

Try hypnotism. It may help you. I saw a hypnotist for just one evening, and I then went on holiday somewhere for two weeks where I couldn't get cigs.
The first week was awful because of all the tingling in your arms. It's the nerves coming back to life or something.
Once through the first week all was ok - never smoked since. That was eight years ago. |

Most effective thing that you can do is to stop thinking of yourself as somebody struggling to stop, and think of yourself as a non-smoker. Made it so easy for me!
Remember - the craving only lasts a couple of minutes, so just hang off for that long and the habit soon breaks...

I stopped just short of six years ago when my 26 years of marriage came to an end!
Zyban turned me from a 30 a day smoker to a non-smoker in 15 days...but the cravings where unbearable, so in a bid to combat those cravings I decorated just about the whole of my house from top to bottom....It worked for me, I'm still a non-smoker, I haven't had a single cig in those 6 yrs.
But......stopping smoking so abruptly caused my Thyroid to go wonky, which initially made me very ill, resulting in my having to give up my job and completely change my lifestyle! There were moments when I thought that giving up hadn't been such a good idea...but in all honesty I wouldn't be where I am today if I hadn't given up, just the cost alone would have crippled me, which was my original incentive to give up, as I was determined not to ask my ex for a single penny to get by....
Best of luck to all those Fab folk who are trying to give up, I know how hard it is, and I hope you reach your goal...Jo xx |

Mr P is currently using one of those E-Lites electronic thingies.
He hasn't bought cigs in 2 weeks, after smoking 40 a day for years.
He swears by the E-Lites answer, and at a cost of £2 for the equivalent of 20 cigs, he still gets his nicotine hit but without the tar, carbon monoxide and all the other shit they put in tobacco. |

I'm on day 6, I've been using patches, a bit itchy at first but seem to be getting on with them.
I get a craving every now and then but try to do something to take my mind off it.....my house is spotless now! lol!
I also log onto the stoptober app to see how much I've saved.....£40 after 6 days!!! That's good motivation for me....will be able to go on a cheap winter sun holiday in 2 months - seems like a good treat!
Congrats to those of you who are still off the fags! We can do it |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
"I've tried everything. from patches and gum to champix to watching that pile of money getting bigger. none of them burn as well as a nice fag.
"
Try not burning the money - it feels better that way.
Have a look at profiles and count up how many will meet smokers and if the non-smokers is greater then use that as an incentive. |

The Champix was rough. 3 drags of a smoke and I was violently ill. Didn't stop the cravings tho and tripped me out more than the nic-fits. I read a medical study that claimed that if you've smoked for more than 20 years, you have a higher risk of contracting cancer by quitting than continuing (the shock to your system). Considering Islam next lol. |

Giving up Islam or using it as a way to give up smoking? I know lots of Muslims that smoke - you see them all light up at the same time as soon as Ramadan is over. |

Well they must be onto something: a cigarette takes 5 minutes off your life but a slice of bacon takes 7. |

"I'm day 3 now. Been a bit ratty today but so far so good....
well done - keep it up "
Thank you Minxie
I am now 7 days, 16 hrs and 12 minutes in. Saved £29.90 and NOT smoked 76 cigs.
I'm not finding it as hard as the other times I've tried to give up and this time i'm going cold turkey. Don't see the point in patches/e cigs - you're not giving up, you're still addicted to nicotine and will have to wean yourself off that next. |

I started off on patches but changed to nicotine chewing gum as a) kept forgetting to put them on in the morning and b) itched like hell. Now down to 3 or 4 chewing gums a day.
Now looking at a january winter sun holiday using the money i saved on fags......result! |
