Monday Mental Health Check-In

I thought it might be a nice idea to get a thread going that people can use to check-in on a weekly basis. I know from reading the forums that lots of us struggle with our mental health, so feel free to check in with how you’re feeling or just an emoji if you don’t want to share more this week.

I live with anxiety (currently having CBT to try and help) but am struggling a bit more this week due to an approaching trauma anniversary. I’m managing but it’s scary and tiring.

How are you?

This is a nice idea starfly.

I live with an anxiety disorder and bpd which is managed through medication and good self care, although my quality of life has improved somewhat since I started transitioning.

I like this.

The idea that is and not the trauma. Obviously.

Yeah mental health… err feeling a little overwhelmed, and I know that the depression monster is looming on the horizon, so just keeping my head above water.

Thank you for starting this post OP.

Secret hideaway in the pennines

For the first time in a long, long time, I am happy and content, and it isn't the antidepressants.

Fantastic news from the hospital last week, and after 13 months of not working, a part time job, so all is good in my little hideaway in the Pennines.

To those who are down, be patient, good things will come when you least expect it.

Stay strong and try to be positive, keep telling yourself today is going to be a better day

That really doesn’t sound good, it sounds as though you maybe feel a bit let down by the professionals? It’s so hard when we’re trusting them to do what’s best for us. I hope you’re ok x

You’re very welcome, openness around mental health is something I’m passionate about. I’m sorry you’re struggling, it can be exhausting can’t it? Overwhelmed is a word I used this morning to somebody about how I’m feeling too x

That’s really good news! It sounds like a bit of a relief for you

Your advice reminds me of a pic I shared on social media this morning saying ‘Happiness comes in waves, it will find you again’

Thanks for sharing x

That's the tough thing about it, one day your fine the next you can't cope. It's important to talk to someone, it doesn't have to be a lonely experience. My inbox is always open to anyone that needs it

Thank you for the offer that’s very sweet of you to offer. It’s much appreciated.

Yes Starfly. Exhausting too. I have a feeling that’s why we (people who suffer from depression) use the excuse “no it’s okay, I’m just tired.”

Brilliant thread Starfly.

I've officially got Long Covid on top of my anxiety and depression so I've been struggling for a while.

Long nights on my own allow the brain goblins to create chaos.

Today is "good" so far

What a lovely thread starflylou.

Thank you for starting it and I'm happy to chat with and check in with anyone. It's been a good year professionally and a crap one personally after a bereavement. A lot of days are good, then emotions can sweep right in and knock me sideways. It's getting easier overall but not looking forward to Christmas or the first anniversary.

I managed to get my hours at work increased and kept busy and another poster mentioned brain goblins, these were waiting for me when i was on my own and my mind would drift. Thankfully they seem to have largely taken leave at present!

I recognise now that I've had a couple of bouts of depression in my life, so its great to talk.

This is so real. I was the last person I thought would be effected by this. Former marine, blokes bloke. Just get on with it attitude and everyone who suffers needs to just have a stern word with themselves.

You mind can be a scary place. You’re not alone people especially men. It’s cool to cry guys. Regulation of emotions not suppression and talk. It really will help and potentially save your life.

I know it’s now Tuesday, but just wanted to say that this is a lovely idea, OP.

I’ve been on Fab eleven years, and I firmly believe that it’s a good source of advice and support on mental health matters .

It was only when I experienced bad times in my life I began to understand how much mental health can have an impact on myself and people around me.

I locked myself away for a long time but being someone that enjoys talking found a way out by talking to professionals and important people in my life.

At the time it felt like why am I talking to all these people about my struggles but now realise how much it actually helped and feel much better for it.

Find someone to talk to. It helps.

Peace and Love to all struggling right now.

Talking is very underrated and you need to find someone that will just listen and professionals are trained in this.

I’m happy you found the help you needed

Briliant thread OP. I have most definitley struggled in the past with my MH, but i have surprised myself with how well ive coped with lockdown and the social isolation. We all need to talk about our MH more, we all have our sturuggles with it to a greater or lesser extent. Sending lots of love and hugs to all. X

Didn't realise that. I was on Pregabalin as a pain killer for my slipped disc as well as Codeine. I'm off them now as they were having no effect.

This is a lovely thread to do. I've been on Citalopram in the past. I've found through experience it's always helpful to try and talk about things rather than bottling it up but I know that's easier said than done. Jack

Just to add, I was offered medication pills but always refused because did not want to lose my natural mental independence.

Being a happy person by nature I could not understand how low I was feeling.

I know it's different for everyone and it might not be possible for all but I would recommend fighting this horrible illness by natural means.

A positive belief, faith meditation helps greatly too
