A lot of profiles on here are very racist where people openly state that they want black men only or no Asians or only interested in white people. If I advertised a job in this way I would be in court. Where else can you get away with these levels of racism?

I don't think so. It's more a preference. People do have the choice to pick who they want to meet based on what they like or prefer

It's the same as people prefer gym fit or larger people.

Nothing wrong with stating a preference you're not saying there's anything wrong with either side just have a preference who gets to play

No different to saying no under 20s or over 50s for example

Would the fact that I am straight and do not play with other women make me homophobic ?

Afterall I couldn’t advertise a job vacancy stating “only straight people need to apply” ,

Still in normal time my profile would stated that I have no interest in playing with other ladies.

Preference … by making it clear on my profile I am trying to avoid wasting people’s ( mostly couples) time.

So to recap I love women but I don’t want to shag them

What a world we live in when you can't publicly state what you're sexual preference, especially on a site where people are openly looking for sex, without someone thinking it's racist. The world has gone mad I tell you. You fancy who you fancy.

In no way is it acceptable for people to be discriminated in life on gender, sexual orientation, race or anything else, but this isn't discrimination. This is personal choice. This isn't the 'work place' or a 'swimming club' and people applying to be apart of those things. This is a place where people choose to be intimate with each other. Their bodies, their choice. That goes for every single person on here.

Well I think when you want to have sex with someone or be with them that way, you are allowed to have preferences.

Some are ultra specific some not so much. It’s okay either way as you are getting involved on a very personal level!

When it comes to work or whatever, you pick the best candidate for the job out of a bunch, and that’s regardless of gender, age, race, height, dick size/vag depth etc x

I prefer to ignore profiles that I don't have anything in common with and don't concern myself with what they have on their profile.

On my very first facepic Friday on here I sent a pic to a popular couple who were also on the thread. They didn't return the favour but replied that I might have been hot if I wasn't Irish.

They may have had a preference for non Irish people but it could easily have been interpreted as xenophobia just in the way it was worded.

Tbf, I think that's quite on odd thing for them to say. Albeit, the reasons may or may not have been malicious. You did the right thing, don't make a fuss, try not to second guess what they actually meant, it may have been innocent, and just move on.

Or people prefer some physical traits over another and that's absolutely fine. You definitely will, I definitely do and every other person does. Yes these can be overcome when you know someone and find that person attractive from the inside, but this a site predominantly for fucking and the physical side really does matter. Stop making this something it isn't because you're struggling on here.

Firstly I wouldn't compare it to a work environment. We aren't forced by law here in the same way. We can all strive to obide same moral code and aspire to similar decency level, but you cannot make people have sex with everyone by accusing them of racism.

Secondly, no I do not agree with plastering it on your profile, but you should be able to pick and chose. You just don't need to be be so obvious and brutal about it as race isn't something we can change. So why make people feel crap about it? You are who you are. There is someone for everyone.

Am I not allowed to have my own desires for sexual pleasure? I like tall men. Taller than me. And younger men. Younger than me. I’ve put it in my profile to kind of save everyone a bit of time and energy and to avoid having to refuse someone because as the saying goes, refusal often offends.

Am I wrong to state these preferences? Am I being shortist and ageist? Genuine question.

I have personal preference for middle eastern folk, I have no idea why and its not even a conscious decision, it's just what I'm attracted to. On the very same note a lady applied for a job .she had all the experience and Qualifications needed for the Job role.

She went for the interview ,in the interview she was told she is over qualified!

She left , it did not sit well with her.

She reapplied for that very same job, she made Some changes to her CV ie name, race ,religion etc. And sent it off. Got a called in again ..

When she turned up it was the very same interviewer. And she was shocked!

Same person same experience, qualifications yet the detail on her CV Was what got her there!

She was Black.

Preferences are preferences!!

Stating that you don’t want a certain thing is absolutely fine….if the reason why you don’t want someone is a derogatory reason because of the colour of their skin (or towards another protected characteristic) then you will be considered racist (or offensive).

Their body, their choice.

Remember that first.

Though yes, some could possibly conduct themselves and their preferences better in their profiles.

I don't think there's any ist or ism to have a personal choice on whom we get intimate with.

I'm thinking those expressing such in their profiles are just in the hope to avoid any uncomfortable private messages.

They may even employ or lead a swimming team of those they choose not to be intimate.

"I have personal preference for middle eastern folk, I have no idea why and its not even a conscious decision, it's just what I'm attracted to. Some people are attracted to guys, some to girls, some to both. Every other profile on here states 'not looking for single guys' Doesn't make them homophobic, it just means that guys are their thing

Preferences are preferences!!

Stating that you don’t want a certain thing is absolutely fine….if the reason why you don’t want someone is a derogatory reason because of the colour of their skin (or towards another protected characteristic) then you will be considered racist (or offensive). well if your profile states no Asians or black men only surely that's because of the colour of their skin?"

Maybe…maybe not….everyone has their reasons and I believe it’s each to their own….no ones displays on their profile the reasons why they don’t want a certain type and unfortunately it leads to people speculating and throwing accusations at them!

Can’t you just respect the fact that they don’t with to meet a certain type??

I think Fab should remove the 'not looking for guys' option because if you don't find men attractive then it must be because you're a closet homophobe

This thread is baffling. I understand the OP but comparing employment criteria and personal sex choices is like comparing fruit with cars. A persons skin colour has no baring on their ability to do a job. A white brain surgeon will save your like same as an asian brain surgeon or a black one.

Granted some may find it distasteful to put detailed sexual preference on their profiles but does this not let you know where you stand? If i see a profile that is asking for specific traits, that i don’t have, thats fine, i move on to other profiles. No one likes to be excluded based on a characteristic they cant change. Trying to ‘guilt’ people into sex with people they don't fancy is wrong too.

Having preferences is quite different to ruling out an entire race of people and stating it on your profile. Saying "I like tall men" is showing a positive preference. And people who write "no Asians" etc on a profile - I call it what it is. Racist.

There was a thread recently about short(er) men and everyone jumped in to be reassuring and nice. BBW women get loads of support and positivity. What a contrast.

"A lot of profiles on here are very racist where people openly state that they want black men only or no Asians or only interested in white people. If I advertised a job in this way I would be in court. Where else can you get away with these levels of racism?"

How can you ever start to compare your sexual preferences with advertising a job?? But let’s go with it for now to appease your thinking.

Job advertisements are selective. If you were advertising for a brain surgeon you wouldn’t select a tree surgeon just because they were a surgeon of types.

They advertise and select the most suitable people for interview and ultimately employment.

Fab is also a selection process based on preferences. Preferences are based on different things for different people. That doesn’t mean they are racist, ageist, or anything of the sort.

You select your friends, the people you interact with. You select the books you read. The films you watch. Life is about selection and choice. On fab their are people who are open about their individual choices and in contrast there people who aren’t for FOMO or genuinely don’t care. That is their choice the same as you make your choices unless of course you believe that people should not be allowed to have individual preferences that is a completely different conversation.

Seems it's racist unless it's about who you have sex with, then it's preference.

What the last few years has shown us is that racism still is very commonplace.

It's unfathomable to me that you can discount and entire race of people based purely on their skin colour. To someone like me, skin colour doesn't come into attraction, I either fancy them or I don't.

I don't care what colour you are, if you're hot to me, I'd want to have sex with you.

It's an aversion, and dislike of folk. With regard to profiles, it's a cruel to be kind artifice.

But not racism, as this involves a whole raft of 'explanations' (wrongful) and activism in promoting it.

It's confusing if people say it's a preference. You prefer what you like and want.

I have spoken to people who have “no …” on their profiles and I always get the same answer from them. They have unfortunately had to spell it out in no uncertain terms as the positive preferences approach doesn’t work.

Saying you prefer taller men, while positive preference, will be seen as a loose preference too many to try their ‘luck’ while being shorter than you.

We will always have preferences that can be negotiated and some that can not

Clearly, I think if someone automatically says never. There’s a deep rooted pre-conception going on somewhere that is creating a barrier in their mind.

Personally speaking, I’m more attracted to white guys and tend to gravitate around white dudes, but I’ve been with guys who are black, Arab etc

Never with an oriental guy tho, as generally I find them not my taste, maybe I get feminine vibes? But either way, it’s not a never as I’ve seen some handsome oriental guys (like the guy who did Crazy rich Asians! He’s a fiiiiineeee man)

But if someone rejects a whole race no matter what, well, I see your point!

A good example I think…

Personally, I find it pretty transphobic if someone for example, is attracted and sleeps with a trans woman who’s post op (and he might not be aware of it) then she says “by the way, I am a woman who’s trans” and he gets turned right off because of that information.

So there’s a concept/notion that doesn’t sit well in their mind.

Especially if there’s attraction and there was nothing that would have made them go “okay, I don’t like you”

That’s why I mentioned post op as preference when it comes to genital is fine. But if that person is a hot woman, and has a vag. Then.. yeah. I stand my ground

We aren’t arguing and yes I have been discriminated against and I have been judged unfairly for 20+ years. So I would not say I am not privileged in anyway. Of course not, because you are straight so you aren’t attracted to men.

But I think saying “ID NEVER EVER EVER BE ATTRACTED TO … (example) A BLACK WOMAN ”

So totally rejecting a race, that’s quite a statement in my opinion.

Like everyone has preferences I think, but generally speaking I think it’s how you go on about stating the preferences and yeah maybe be open minded?

I do love real tall dudes (and ideally if someone is really tall then generally he’s in my graces ), but I have been with a lot of shorter guys and had an amazing time x

" its a preference. Not racism, its stating what they want and dont want. "

Many have said "personal preference" is not racism as if that is the end of the matter.

However, if an employer turned down a suitable Asian applicant for a job because he had a "preference" for white people. Would that be considered racist?

Conversely is "personal preference" a valid defence against a charge of racism?

It is a complex issue where the Fab cliché of "personal preference" does not offer a universal solution. Having said that there are no Laws that I know of that force you to fuck someone you don't fancy because they are from another ethnic group.

"Having preferences is quite different to ruling out an entire race of people and stating it on your profile. Saying "I like tall men" is showing a positive preference. And people who write "no Asians" etc on a profile - I call it what it is. Racist.

There was a thread recently about short(er) men and everyone jumped in to be reassuring and nice. BBW women get loads of support and positivity. What a contrast.

That's just the site, TBG. saying what you want or don't want on your profile makes no difference to the majority of people who won't read it. If they did, I wouldn't get most of the messages I get! Imagine being an black or Asian guy and reading that on profile after profile. In addition to the casual racism they encounter in the workplace and elsewhere. Daily. I've read first hand accounts of how that feels for people.

And there are also profiles that state looking for BBC only. That is discriminates against me personally on 2 levels. How does that make me feel?

I don't know, how do you feel? I don't think that that's an equal comparison. You have white privilege. You won't have had instances all your life of being judged because of the colour of your skin. We have a different perspective on this issue, I don't wish to argue with you, my friend.

We aren’t arguing and yes I have been discriminated against and I have been judged unfairly for 20+ years. So I would not say I am not privileged in anyway. That would suggest that my life has been somehow easier which trust me it hasn’t. I have fought and worked hard for everything I have in my life and will continue to do so.

Just to add something but positive discrimination is still discrimination "

I wasn't suggesting your life has been easy or that you haven't encountered discrimination in other ways. But being white in Britain carries privileges. That's what I was referring to.

The BBC preferences don't bother me in the slightest but to say someone has the benefit of white privilege doesn't sit well with me.

I'm white but grew up in an environment where I was discriminated against because of my religion. I've never been judged on the colour of my skin but I've been told by a certain sector of the community that I had little or no value because I was an Irish Catholic.

I've been made feel like a second class citizen by those who were running the country.

I've also seen the signs on doors and windows that said " No blacks, no dogs and no Irish".

These aren't urban myths by the way so the fact I am white has never equated to privilege.

"What a world we live in when you can't publicly state what you're sexual preference, especially on a site where people are openly looking for sex, without someone thinking it's racist.

That goes for every single person on here."

I feel like it’s not racist to have a sexual preference in as far as it’s not homophobic to be straight.

Each to their own.

No one is saying anything negative about their non preference so I don’t see how it’s racism in any way shape or form.

Objectification maybe in the sense that some people will only want black men due to their reputation for being well hung.

People like what they like. I’m fat do I get offended when people say on their profile they like slim fit girls nope I just move on to the person who likes a bit of curves. Simples.

I honestly don't see it as a complicated area and I am some what suspicious of people who try and portray it as such.

You pick sexual partners based on your personal preference. If you want to have sexy fun time with only black people or not with larger people or exclusively with trans people then go for it. Its a larger visual and feel thing when it comes to the physical element of sexual attraction.

An employee is not hired based on how visually appealing or otherwise that someone finds them. They are hired based on an ability to perform a role. The colour of someone's skin or the shape of their body doesn't for instance alter their ability in create spreadsheets for instance.

Agreed. You never see the preferences reverted but imagine if it was"

In that case saying "I like white men" is like saying "only white men"...which in a sense shows more racism than saying "no black/Asian men". Racist people are generally racist towards all other minorities, because they see their skin colour as superior. Other people might not like black or Asian people, which is still a form of racism based on negative experiences they had with members of that group of people, or brought up by parents that had negative experiences with members of that group of people... but it is not the "whites are superior" type of racism, which basically created the whole concept of racism in the first place

I know they're not myths. Saying there is such a thing as white privilege doesn't exclude other discrimination. It's not a competition. It's recognition of one of the ways in which the world does discriminate. Religion, sadly, is another. That's why it's one of the protected characteristics in the Equality Act.

"A lot of profiles on here are very racist where people openly state that they want black men only or no Asians or only interested in white people. If I advertised a job in this way I would be in court. Where else can you get away with these levels of racism?"

Ultimately, people are only going to meet the people they want to meet. For me personally, I would avoid profiles stating "white only" or "black only" (obviously for different reasons), it is surely beneficial for people to know that you are not what they are looking for... so you don't waste your time messaging.

We can have a conversation about what it means to have preferences in the real world or from a dating perspective...but here on fab or when it comes to a purely sexual interaction, I Don’t believe men have preferences and I have never seen a man's bio state "only white women"...from a biological pov we are simply not programmed that way our reptilian brain doesn't work that way...things change when we want more than just nsa sex, that's when we start to develop preferences. In the case of women , even purely just for sex, they want "the best seed" (I know this sounds weird- but I am talking from a biological pov and how our reptilian brains are hardwired) that's why women tend to have more preferences even on a sex site like this

Even in your case, there's probably less than 0.1% men on fab that would say no to having sex with you based on the fact you are not cis ( not even the most transphobic of men here)...they might not date you, or even want to be seen in public with you ( based on their preconceived bullshit ideology) but they would still find you sexually attractive.

I know this sounds horrible, and I do not mean it in that way...I am simply presenting the reality of things... so no I don't think men ( or at least most men) have any preference when it comes to just "I'm horny and I want to fuck" sex."

I see your point , and you are right! Also thanks for the little boost

"Well since you put it that way...I am homophobic because I don't want to have sex with men?

But then again, I also don't mention that in my bio...if someone is not my type, I just tell them so.

In the case of women who get thousands of messages per day, it might help to put exactly what they want( and don't want) in their bio. Will save them a few extra messages to reject

OMG not again with the tall dudes ...we get it, women prefer tall guys and short guys are just a secondary option ...or no option in some cases

But it’s a preference isn’t it?

Also wouldn’t say secondary options!! But yeah I bet that’s kinda how it feels for some women when it comes to their race. Because they aren’t the classic white girl.

I do feel grade B sometimes compared to some cis women

"White privilege is a systemic concept not an individual one and its really easy to explain.

Imagine the worst possible start in life a white person could have, and everything that could go wrong in their life does.

Now imagine having to deal with all of that AND institutional racism.

That's white privilege.

It’s one of the many privileges:

Like beauty privilege, or money privilege etc etc

Imagine all of them combined

The easiest case scenario would be

A white heterosexual cisgender male with pots of money and connections because he comes from a very rich privileged family, ohh and very attractive.

I just described Prince Harry

you did too! "

I only realised after rereading my description I’m howling !!!!

"Very well said!

The world we live in unfortunately. Have an opinion or a preference in 2021 and it will be dissected beyond belief..

I guess it’s what informs that preference. I like redheads, for various reasons. However if I see a profile with “no Asians,” I always wonder what that’s about. Asia’s a big continent with many different races of people, including white people. So what’s the person really saying…"

The person is saying that they don't find Asian's attractive and don't want Asian's to contact them.

I don't think it's racism even though it may come across like it is. Nothing wrong with letting people know their preferences.

However, it really does annoy me when you read a long profile and right at the bottom it says, "black men" only, "white men" or no less then 8" or any other preferences. Put it in the beginning so as not to waste our time!

In this case it was this gents irishness comment that is the core of what was intended!

No one can help what their mind likes. You can't change what you lust after just because you think you should be more PC around any ism - it simply can't be changed. You lust after things for many reasons, but if you don't like something and have no desire for it you pretty much won't be entertaining it, so telling people what you want in your shop window to the most liberal of sites around is not only sensible, but a necessity to stop wasting yours and everyone else's time. It would be a sad world if everyone yearned for the same things.

Some will be racist yeah.

Others will be to fulfil very specific fantasies. Who the hell is anyone to tell people they aren't allowed certain fantasies? Or that their fantasy is racist? It's a fucking fantasy, a scenario tailored to exactly what their loins and mind desire.

There will be some who, won't entertain certain types due to being triggered from traumatic events. Do they think every person of a certain colour or hairstyle or name or height or any other trait is bad? Of course not, but they don't want to put themselves or another person in a potentially uncomfortable position. Much the same as I won't shag anyone with the same name as my ex. It's triggering.

All on paper and typed is not all and be all.

But race is another matter all together. I think mention of racial prefrence is best left out of profiles on fab. It is easy enough to simply say no thank you, make an excuse or ignore some one. Expressing a negative racial prefrence seems to be potentially inflammatory.

But personally as an openly bi white male, I can't deny that I find slim black men desperately attractive. But at the same time I do feel personally and morally uncomfortable about my sexualisation of a specific race, be it a positive bias. It is still a racially motivated bias.

I think however hard we endeavour to avoid being racist and strive to confront and address any subliminal prejudice. It is all but impossible to be colour blind in our perception and reactions to others. Bias be it negative or positive is inevitable.
