A lawyer called Nick Freeman aka Mr Loophole is reported as commenting and filming cyclists driving inconsiderately whilst two abreast.. the video is online and who if anybody is right .
Cyclists slowing cars to 20mph in a 60mph limit. Are they selfish buggers ? |

The argument for it is that it makes you easier to pass whilst deterring cars from unsafe overtakes towards oncoming traffic, squeezing you into the kerb/hedge.
I just avoid riding on roads. They’re full of arseholes. |

Cars are more likely to slow down if you're two abreast, rather than blasting past with a minimal gap. |

They are better grouped together as easier to pass because vehicles passing have less distance to cover on the over take if the cyclists are single file covering a section of road taking up the guts of a 40ft long line that’s like trying to pass a full size lorry and single file or not you should still be on far side of the road while passing. If you are squeezing past single file cyclists/walkers/motorcycles while still on same side of road in my opinion and in the opinion of the law you are to close if they fall over no matter of the cause and you will not win in court if you hit them or kill them. Not arguing everyone gets frustrated I get it but they do have a right to the road |

The cyclists vs cars on the road debate has always annoyed me.
While i cant be bothered to get into every little detail about the subject, i will say that cyclists do not, at least in my own experience, make it easy to assist other motorists. Theres a lot of rhetoric telling motorists to be more considerate of cyclists, i see very little regarding cyclists being considerate to other motorists and i see them do a lot of very aggravating stuff on the road.
One particular example was needing to overtake the same cyclist three fucking times as every time i was stopped at a set of lights, this muppet plodded his way back to the front of the queue at each set of lights. He made absolutely no consideration for the other motorists who had to pass him multiple times. What was the need for him to slither his way back to the front of the queue? NONE. He wouldnt have any more progress or had further delay on his journey had he just stopped at the next stationary vehicle waiting to move on |

Poor judgment and lack of awareness gets more ppl killed than speeding itself |

Surely that's just city driving. Hardly the fault of the cyclist. |

"I have been hit three times now, while walking along the pavement, by clowns on pushbikes. They should pay road tax to pay for signage, cycle lanes and take a test, same as motorists."
This again
There is no road tax. Hasn't been for many years |

"The only time they annoy me is when they seem to think traffic lights don't apply to them and sail through them as you're crossing...many a near miss with my kids had "
Someone should knock them off. Many go through red lights here too.
So do cars though. |

It's the same where I live. Sometimes I have to push a wheelchair along the pavement. They show no respect and expect us to get out of the way as they speed through. Imagine what would happen if walked along the road ! |

Perfectly legal to cycle two abreast . I’m a cyclist who realises the frustration in trying to overtake a large group spread over 150 meters and travelling at 20 MPH. Bottom line too many cars and cyclists on the roads !! |

"I don't believe there has ever been Road tax for cyclists. So who is paying for all the bridges, cycle lanes and signage ?"
There is no such thing as road tac and there hasn't been since the late 1930's when abolished Churchill specifically said he didn't want motorists thinking they owned the roads.
Car tax or VED is based on emissions, if you have a low polluting car, or electric you pay nothing. Similarly police, ambulance, fire, public sector vehicles such as bin lorries don't pay so should they not be driving around?
Roads, signage and the like are generally paid though local taxation that's your council tax, so irrespective of if someone uses the roads or not they are paying for the infrastructure. |

Road tax covers about 2/3rds of the costs of road maintainance. IIRC, 2019 numbers, 7bn raised by road tax, 11bn spent on roads.
I.E. roads are paid for by anyone who pays any form of tax.

He's a knob (as you can expect from a lawyer called Mr Loophole )
The video he posted showed a winding country road where it would have not only been dangerous to drive at 60 (it's a limit, not the recommended speed), but also would have been unsafe to overtake on even if the bikes had been single file.
To add to that, as you are supposed to give bikes the same space as a small car when overtaking, if the bikes had been single file, it would have been even harder to overtake, as they would have taken up more length along the road, rather than just the width of a small car. |

My point is that very suddenly the roads and pavements have changed. Its good more people are cycling and it really doesn't matter where the money comes from. We all pay in the end. Trouble is no-one has thought about it. Cyclists flood the pavements. A young man where I live is permanently disabled after a cyclist hit him. Car drivers MUST slow down in country lanes now. Enormous amounts are being spent on cycle lanes and bridges that just lead on to narrow pavements. No investment in buses. |

"I have been hit three times now, while walking along the pavement, by clowns on pushbikes. They should pay road tax to pay for signage, cycle lanes and take a test, same as motorists."
Maybe anyone needing to walk outside should pay a pedestrian tax for all those pavements you're using and to cover the cost of the pedestrian crossings?
Maybe an annual test and pedestrian insurance to cover any damage caused by walking along paying more attention to phones, chatting or walking in to the road and causing collisions with passing innocent motorists when not paying attention- so they're not left with a hefty repair bill for pedestrian stupidity? |

It's called the cycling proficiency test, it's not mandatory but it exists. |

"Where live the cycle on the pavement completely ignoring the cycle lane and have the nerve to ding their bell to get people to move out of their way. "
Unfortunately it's not nerve their pedestrian bell is to in fact warn pedestrians, some people aren't confident enough for the bike lane or road hence the need and use of bells. |

A few points…
1) for every person injured by a cyclist, there will be hundreds injured and killed by drivers of cars.
2) people HAVE thought about it, it’s why there are entire sections dedicated to driving in the vicinity of cyclists in the Highway Code and on driving tests.
3) You SHOULD slow down on country roads, they invariably have limited width, lots of bends and restricted views of the road ahead. Not driving fast is simply sensible and considerate driving |

The usual anti cyclist comments. Most cyclists will be car owners and regular driver's. Granted there's always a handful of idiots, just in every walk of life. It's amazing that the impatient motorist always cites a cyclist for holding them up but no-one ever mentions horse riders. It's far easier to pass a cyclist and you'll not be held up for as long as you would be behind a horse rider, who have the same rights to be on the carriageway.

There is a big safety advantage in being in front of cars. If a cyclist is in front of the first car at a junction, then the traffic isn't going to turn left into the cyclist, where as if they are further back in the queue then they are dealing with cars overtaking them whilst potentially wanting to turn left.
As a cyclist, I am always confused by so many drivers are so desperate to squeeze past... just so they can stop at the red lights before me?

I'm not sure that it can be taken any other way. There is no ambiguity in that comment, it is not a "figure of speach"... just suggestion that the safety of a person on a bike has less importance that getting to your destination 30 seconds earlier.
