You know... that thing females have started doing that makes words sound 'mardy' (if you dont know what it is please youtube).
Does anyone do it here? Why is it done? It sounds daft please stop it

G.... I trusted you. I thought I could Google anything you brought up and it would be safe.
I now need ear bleach.
Why in the name of all that is good and holy would anyone talk like that unless it was their natural voice ffs?

I 100%. Agree with you...I can't stand listening to programs where the women grate their voices seemingly to add gravitas or authority to their statements... particularly Americans... they all seem to growl at the world ...  |

It’s worse than those who always finishe the last word of a sentence two octaves higher than the previous word. This one time,, in band camp style. Makes me want to rip my arm off and beat them with it. |

It's a bit difficult to describe in words because it's a sound. Think of somebody talking but not pushing enough air over your vocal chords. Instead of getting a smooth sound out you get a kind of crackly noise.
That's the best I can think of to explain it. Im sure YouTube will have some examples if you need one. |

Vocal fry is a singing technique particularly common in metal for producing gutturals or fry screams. It's a diaphragmatic technique that doesn't engage the vocal folds.
No idea why someone would add fry to their day to day speaking voice though. |
