Missing the gym

Last week couldn't make it because I had horrible insomnia and my gym isnt 24/7. This week I was down with the cold. I'm literally itching to try and sneak in a sesh this weekend if I'm feeling better lol.

To my fellow gym goers, how long can you stay away from the gym before the itch to go overtakes your rationale thinking?

Why go to the gym when your home can be the gym, your body as the weights and the various stuff inside your home can be the equipment

I just mentioned on another thread i do bodyweight exercises and you can totally do everything in your workout at home without equipment

I’ve been away from it for a couple of weeks now with an injury, it’s tested my patience over the last few days but know it’s better to rest up for a short time, than recover from a worse injury over a long time.

I wish I had that itch to continuously go to the gym…I have the opposite problem where I need someone to drag me there!!!

The motivation to get back in there really is a hard one

A week max but then I really need to go back. Home workouts are good, but for me I like going to the gym to get away, as I also WFH, and I like the equipment they have . I complete YouTube videos for Glutes etc - I certainly feel it!!

I do bodyweight workouts with a weighted vest as part of my routine. But during lockdown this year I did manage to get into the best shape of my life using a weighted vest, a dip station and a pull up bar.

Just had a lot of rotten luck this year, got hit by a car (a Range Rover no less) and been down with the cold cold few times, so my workout routine hasn't been the most disciplined in the past 4 months tbh

I follow James Smith, and love his take on missing the gym. It’s no big deal to not go, life gets in the way sometimes, as long as your consistency over a longer period of time is on point. A short period of inconsistency isn’t gonna affect the outcomes in the long term.

Ah thats fair, its hard to keep the discipline going when you take a couple knocks. My advice would be to work on some easier stuff that doesnt require a great deal of effort just to keep the muscle fibers active. Its sucks a big one when you make all that hard work and then lose some of it acter your routine takes a knock

Yup, been trying to get back on track and then to get sick this week (sighs) but I swear I might try and sneak a little gym sesh tomorrow after visiting the optometrist lol

If it's purely weightlifting...than I could go a month without the gym, but no working out at all not even bodyweight exercises or...probably less than a week

I'm in the gym between 4 - 5 days a week. When I can't make it I have Olympic dumbells and ez cutlery bar in my garage. Its a pain in winter time as ice cold.

I start to feel the itch after a few days as know I need to juggle around body parts for maximum effort

I'll drag you there if you like but what I'd really prefer to do is throw you over my shoulder and carry you there.

Haven't been since the first lockdow nearly 2 years. Got a set of dumbbells a chin up bar and bodyweight exercises lost some size but looking pretty toned

I've just started back after two months off following an operation. Never again. It was awful, and I was a complete nightmare according to Mr Kool.

I've had an operation too ..& it's likely I'll need another one shortly.

I've also only been doing bodyweight excerises for the past 4 years (& going on long hikes.) I've not lifted external weights for all that time. (This was due to spine problems but don't miss it really.)

Had a couple of colds on and off recently which kept me away for a week at a time. Don't think I could've cooed with more than that knowing how much it would affect my lifts

Not too long.

But for me it’s more linked to my diet. One bad meal and I feel a compulsion to go the next day as I irrationally think that I will have ballooned from that single treat !
