Type of potato and why?

Saw this title and got excited... heart sank when I realised it was about porn so started my own.

I didn't grow up in a potato house (mine was actually made of swede) so potato wasn't a staple but I do get turned on (not like that) by all the talk of varieties and such.

So what types are best and for what?

Potato puns most welcome.

Best I ever grew were Kondor. But you can’t get them now. I can always grow good spuds.

Desiree are general all rounders. But every year I try a new variety. Spuds are amazing!

Early crop potatoes British Queens for me. Then switch to the later variety Golden Wonder in November.

It's been like that in our house since I was a boy and I can't see any reason to change.

That couple of weeks in early summer when Jersey royals and British asparagus are both in season - heaven!

The best new potatoes in the world.

We get wilja potatoes from the market. Cheap and locally grown. A good variety for every way you can cook them

I don't think you'd find them in a supermarket.

Also make great fried potatoes. Microwave with skins on for a few minutes to soften them a little, but not too much. Slice in 10mm slices and fry. Lovely with a fried breakfast.
