Might be a silly question but how many of you would be up for working 4 days a week rather than the standard 5?
Also how many of your current employers would go for it?
I would happily get my 40 hour working week done in 4 days to get an extra day off |

I've worked condensed hours in the past and I've let my staff do it when they've requested it. In my current job we have summer hours where we work an hour extra Monday to Thursday and finish at noon on Friday.
It works well for employers too, as I've found people tend to book doctors or dentists or tradesmen coming to the house for the day they're off, rather than trying to fit it in around meetings and taking time out of the work day. |

No thanks.
I could do with the extra day, but as most of my work is currently done on a day rate I suspect many companies would just use it as a chance to save 20% and expect the same outcomes based on ‘professional working days’ (i.e. as long as it takes) |

If it was still 40 hours weeks (10 hours a day) then no. But if it was 32 hours then I'd be all for it because I reckon I actually only work that much a week anyway |

I have a free day today but I have a few dogs in for grooming and a Guinea pig nail cut the rest of the week, I love my work so don't mind working 7 days a week |

I work 4 days a week. It's nice although having two pre-school age children, work days are much easier than days "off" but I can imagine ever going back to working 5 days a week. |

It wouldnt work in my line of business.
i used to do 2.5 days when i first set up but even though my staff work mega hard and and do a 4.5 day week it still sometimes means im working 7 days a week depending when our job arrives into depot. |

On one hand you’ve got people saying they’ll do 4x 10 hour shifts. Great. I hope your employer allows that
On the other hand, you’ve got people requesting to do 4x 8 hour days and still get paid for a 40 hour week. I’d say those people are idiots
I’m self employed so I only get paid for what I do. So I can do a 3 day week if I want. My wages will reflect that |

Yeah my suggestion would be still working the 40 hours over 4 days, we do have people that work 4 days here but they get paid 32 hours work |

I dropped a day so I only had to work 4 days.
I don't work Mondays because I simply couldn't enjoy my Sunday evenings knowing I had to work the next day. |

I already do a 4 day week. But it's 10hour day! 6am till 4pm out it wipes yiur everings out as just knacked when I get in abs have to be in bed to be up at 4.45 the next day!
But yes 3day weekends are good! |

Let’s wait and see if the companies will do it when they aren’t being funded
The reason I say it’s dumb is because 95% of jobs don’t get this.
There’s a very few jobs at the top of their ability that have the power to say “I’ll work less for the same pay” and have it happen.
For everyone else, good luck trying to explain to an employer why you should get paid 40 hours for a job you can do in 32. They’ll either dock you pay or give you more work. |

I can work whatever hours I like, as long as I do 37 a week. I did try to do all nights but it turns out my clients are all asleep then and wouldn't appreciate the visit (well some might).
In the end I plumped for compressed hours so do 4x10hr days (I don't get paid for my 45 min lunch break). All weekdays so it works well as I always get a long weekend. |

Can you nudge it to 7am to 5pm? That's what I work, and it's more tolerable. that said I wfh so don't have to get up until 6.30am. |

I did read it fully. And it would have to change based on the industry as obviously not everyone works standard 9-5, 5 days a week, but the fact is is that we have overwhelmingly positive evidence to say it works, no data (as of yet) shows that it could change in the future.

There are loads of salaried jobs where you're paid for What you do rather than a set number of hours. |

I already do a 4 day week 12 hour shifts each day. Sometimes though when the rota comes out and with the way it falls you can quite often do 6 days in a row which can be exhausting. |

I've reduced my hours down from 5 days to 4 and now 3.
Working a 3 day week is great but I've had to really push to ensure I'm not doing my old full time job on part time hours.
Be clear about what is practical and what your boss is expecting of you. |

The majority of jobs in the world are not that. Employers are all about profit and if they can pay you less for the same work they’ll do it. Suddenly people think employers would do the opposite?

No ones going to construction sites, restaurants or supermarkets and asking them if they’d be happy paying everyone 40 hours for a 32 hour week. I wonder why |

I used to do 12.5 hours a day and it suited me. I probably would prefer it if I could have it guaranteed what days so could work nursery etc around it. I am considering looking for permanent nights when my baby is school age to avoid childcare |

Convenient reason for you to ignore the data, eh?
Also the point is that more companies would prefer employees who put 100% every day and don't quit, which is much more likely when they have more time to rest.
People like you say the same about raising wages because "no employer would do that!" But notice that when companies don't, people quit and the company loses money, and companies that raised their minimum wage made a lot more money. I have sources for that second pointif you want me to post them so you can say that they're biased again |
