Since I started drinking coffee, I've gone from instant, to coffee pods and now have a french press for home brewing which I'm pretty happy with. I know, I've really gone up in the world
So what do you use to make your coffee and is there anything that would make you change? |

"Another one on pods from Nespresso, given up on bean to cup as they all seem to break on me!"
We but Nespresso compatible pods. They're cheaper, still recyclable and in our opinion better. We've got quite a selection of roasts, a couple of decaffeinated options and a vanilla coffee.
Hmmm nearly time to fire up the machine |

A Lidl espresso machine (I also grind the beans in a Lidl grinder!).
Makes a bloody good coffee.
I bought it as I was not sure I'd get the use, and did not want to spend a fortune.
I use it loads, and don't feel inclined to replace it. |

Ahhh nice, a cafetiere does take longer but I really enjoy the process of it and think the coffee tastes better |

I agree and we have been talking about getting some beans and dusting off the grinder. The ritual of grinding and brewing the coffee is all part of it isn't it.
Do you drink coffee out? We often do and it's very difficult to find a really good cup |

Day to day I use pods for the convenience. Weekends I tend to use a plug in percolator which I love. The burbly popping noise reminds me of my childhood, and it always makes any ground coffee taste a million times better than my cafetiere or chemex does.
I used to have an aeropress I used for work - amazing little gadget, great for one shot - but it vanished and now I'm working from home so much I've not bothered to replace it. |

Have you watched that bloke on social media who is a coffee taster and expert? He brews with all sorts of different machines and his presentation is mesmerising. James something.
I have a percolator, a glass drip filter and an aeropress. |

I usually have the beans grinded when I buy the beans but maybe it could be better to grind them myself. I don't really go out for coffee that often but I agree that it can be hard to get a good one |

I (C) am a coffee enthusiast.
With two kids who are both trained baristas, and coffee making equipment running into many hundreds of pounds, it’s a subject close to my heart.
If you just want espresso style black coffee, there is nothing to beat an aeropress. It makes the nicest coffee imaginable and cost £30! The Sage machine cost ten times that and while it has a steam arm, still can’t beat the aeropress. We’ve also got a sage grinder, which is good, but I’m not sure is good value at £200! You can get some nice bags of ground coffee for a few quid if you want to avoid the whole grinding experience.
Tassimo and Nespresso type machines are probably the most expensive way to drink coffee at home. You’re also at the mercy of the choice of pods available. If you really like different or more specialty roasts, you’re screwed!
I’m quite interested in roasting my own beans. Might take a look at roasters as it’s Black Friday. |

I've done it all with coffee. Filter, pressed, nespresso, dolce gusto, and now I'm on a tassimo.
Out of every different machine I've used over the years its definetly the best pod machine and so many different varieties to choose from.
Easy to clean, descale and a much nicer taste than the best nespresso.
I'm converted now lol |

I find independent cafes usually do the best coffee, but coffee#1 and the coffee house do lovely drinks too. Far better than Starbucks, Costa etc |

I was in Egypt the other year on a diving holiday on a boat, if I wanted coffee I had to ask for Nescafé and got super strong instant, if I was willing to pay I could have Espresso which was even worse as I suspect the ground coffee was months old. |

French press. Asda strength 3 house blend. ( for everyday) some more expensive blends for special occasions. Also got french vanilla syrup for a treat. Generally I just have black coffee so don’t see the point in a machine that can do steamed milk.
Would like a bean grinder to try but at moment I’ve got it pretty straight forward. |

Like you Op, my french press is my go to, I treat it like my instant. It’s quick, I leave it to brew and get in with something come back and I’ve got a cup of joe to go.
Instant, I still have this in, it’s millicano (kenco). |

"A Kaffelogic Nano 7 home roaster, Melitta Calibra grinder and a Hugh Leverpresso Portable Lever Espresso Maker.
Opinions on the roaster please?"
I have been using the Nano 7 for a few months and it has really good control on the roasting and gets very even, consistent results. Unlike some of the other home roasters you can't see the roast progress with the current design of chaff colllector so you are reliant on setting the darkness of roast on the control panel but this works well. I have tried it on a resonable range of beans including some like moonsoned Malibar which tend to have slightly unusual roasting requirements but nothing seems to cause it problems.
As with most home roasters it can be quiet smelly to run, especially if you want very dark roasts, so ideally should be used under an extractor hood. There can also a small amount fugative chaff escaping the chaff collector on some runs. |

Stainless steel cafetier (because glass ones kept smashing). It's great because it's double walled so keeps the coffee warm for longer, and at this time of year I pop it on the radiator while I'm drinking the 1st mug or 2 of the 3 it holds! |

I’m current using a Krups burr grinder and a sage expresso maker. I occasionally use a cafetière which is ok as the grinder has settings for grind. I did think about bean to cup but unless you spend 2-3 grand the grinders use blades. I’m fairly happy with this setup other than 1.8Ltr capacity of the machine I have to fill it every day but then at least the waters fresh |

Have to disagree on Aeropress vs Sage, the pressure of an Aero press is tiny so you don’t get creme. There is a kind of a hack and it’s fun to do , if you google upside down Aeropress or inverted Aeropress.
Anyway if you real good coffee, on a budget , spend your money on good burr grinder and then any old machine or method will taste amazing. |

Whats pretentious about a shop that sells fresh coffee? Are fish and chip shops pretentious because they sell fresh food rather than you get some cheaper froxen fish fingers out of your freezer?
There is a lot of production, chemicals and energy that go into taking a natural product like coffee beans to turn them into instant coffee. Surely selling the more natural product is better? |

Grind very, very fine , about 17 grams per cup, don’t use boiling water. If your kettle doesn’t have a thermometer just pour boiling water into a cold cup, then into aeropress after a few seconds. Quick stir and press straight away. Allow more time if you grind coarser |

I actually do. My oven has that timer thing so 2mins is my brewing times and then press
I have a nespresso as well, my pods are a luxury, as I said, it’s faffing around with the machine, and I feel a press with real beans is a more ‘proper coffee’. |

Ok so I don't have a grinder, maybe I used the wrong type of ready ground coffee bought some Lavazza for my next try.

Completely agree.
I don't meet my mates in pubs and pay £4 a pint. I meet them in coffee shops and pay £3.50 a latte. What's the difference? Is someone paying for a pint in a pub being pretentious when they could buy bottles or cans from a supermarket? |

A lot of people feel like the about coffee and coffee shops.
I think it's missing the point a little. Meeting friends or just going to a coffee shop as a couple (we tend to avoid chains) is about more than the drink, it's a social occasion. Also we love coffee and appreciate the different tastes of various types. It's not for everyone, just like real ale and pubs aren't everyone's cup of tea ( ). It probably does appear pretentious to some people but I'm not sure what I can do about that or what I'm pretending. |

"All about the cafetière for me. I need to start grinding my own beans though and it'll be perfect. Always black, no sugar
Love the earthy Ethiopian beans "
Nice! Are you able to taste the difference between different regions? I'd love to be able to tell the difference |

Tried pods. Got a cafetiere, now got an espresso machine, but not quite at the stage of grinding my own beans (oo-er!) yet. I'm quite happy with asda house blend.
I do really appreciate a good coffee when out though. |

That's fair enough, I haven't tried of the supermarket ones yet, just from a local coffee shop and a Starbucks one. I also love your use of oo-er |

"Got an aeropress a while back, really easy to use and makes a great cup of coffee
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/AeroPress"
I was torn between the aeropress and the french press when I started and went with a french press. I might still get it and just compare between the 2 |

"Tassimo pods for me. Started recycling the pods now too..
Where do you recycle them. I was unaware you could"
If you Google Podback, you can apply to receive bags to put the pods in to put out with the recycling bin |

As I refurbish and sell Cafetieres for a hobby naturally I use a Cafetiere, but also have a percolator and various sizes of Mokka Pots to give me other options. |

I have had all sorts over the years but for pure connivence I now have a Nespresso vertuo. I like the pods and the easiness plus I only buy the full cup ones as I can’t be bothered with the others- I’ve had the other nespresso but prefer the vertuo. Occasionally I use the stove top one with some fresh local beans but these days it’s too much faff |

Tried many things, a coffee machine, aeropress and just a normal kettle and instant. I've settled now on grinding my own beans and using a milk frother.
Oh and I'd recommend a cafetiere mug, very handy sometimes |

In the morning, I make an instant coffee and take it with me for my journey to work
I'm not brand centric - I'll buy whatever is on offer when I need some
In the evening, I have one of them metal coffee brewers that you warm up on the stove
I buy M&S single origin ground coffee for that. It is rather lovely |

I like coffee being made for me so no I don't make it... sometimes I have a phase of buying chai latte capsules for my dust collection bosch machine. Thats about it. Adore those coffee maniacs though. Took some pics of old coffee machines for my caffeine obsessed friend recently, when I visited museum. He loved it |

Mostly a Greek coffee briki. Its like a little saucepan that produces the most amazing coffee (with the help, obviously, of the most amazing beans and water!) Im a typical Greek that needs my morning fix in order to start the day! |

"I uy ground coffee from lidil or Aldi for less than £2 and use a stove coffee maker. Or French press
Way you better than anything else.
Why pay more money for a crap instant?"
So here’s my grief when somebody says ‘get some good quality ingredients …etc’ what makes it good quality? The price? Nope, I’ve had cheaper nicer things in my opinion. And the Aldi coffee is good for me. |

Me, if I have to have coffee then instant in a mug. But I prefer tea to be honest.
Mrs Claus has those Tassimo pods at home and orders all sorts of wanky combinations when we go out - it’s like some sort of alien language shes speaking when ordering. |
