"Worse than the above Branded clothing. Most of the cost is on the the marketing and idiots but into it. " This ^ Is it really worth hundreds or thousands pounds ? To flash someone's name? I disagree about trainers. Good running trainers I'm happy to pay more for ! Not worth saving on. Unless you mean some flashy crap for show off only.

"Pre prepared vegetables." I buy prepared veg these days because it's better value. Unless you're feedback big family, or eating the Same veg every day, it just doesn't last. Plus 3 mins in the microwave is much cheaper than 15 minutes of boiling water. Cal

If I named the establishment it would identify my location more precisely as it is not a chain place. Sorry!

The basic premise being that an Aston Martin is no different from a Vauxhall because it has four wheels, is that right?" Ah, but not all branded clothing/bags/ etc are all that special. £200 for a cotton t shirt? ? £500 for a plastic "designer bag"?? I agree that quality does quite often come with a price, but many folk will just demand the latest "fashionable" brand and it's not to do with quality. X

You said it was the best remark, did you mean the worst remark? " Sorry. I meant it was the worst remark, but it was the best silly comment in my head. My mother was unwell and in a home and my dad was in ill health as well. I had a brother who worked overseas and there was no viable place for us all to have dinner together so we went out for it. Regarding the staff working, they are usually well paid for providing this service and hopefully most of them do it out of choice. They can still experience a family dinner albeit at a different time to the masses. But the point I was trying to make is that I found it baffling that overpriced Christmas dinners was his gripe. Everyone knows it’s going to be overpriced but some families have no choice but to do it. It’s not a waste of money to those families if it’s the only chance that they can be together.

"Pre frozen ice from supermarkets. Surely that has to be cheaper than making it yourself? Your freezer operates at it's most efficient when it's full. Lobbing a load of water in there in the form of cubes makes it cheaper to run. Making your own probably saves you more than not buying it alone." How about the time to fill up the ice trays / bags. 200 ice cubes is what? £1. Time to fill the ice bags / trays and then decant into a bigger bag would be many multiples of that surely. The leccy cost to keep it frozen is the same regardless of who/where it was initially frozen.

"Protein in any form. FFS they've created a market out of nothing for this and every gym rat in the country has fell for it. You see guys with huge tubs of that shit and it stinks! What's wrong with getting your protein the same way as the dinasours would have - eating the correct food! Because it's not being used as part of a normal balanced diet, it's to repair muscle damage and minute tears etc to aid in recovery, and you need it within 30 mins of doing the physical activity, so waiting an hour to shower, go home, and cook a meal (assuming you didn't) would make it pointless, plus meals should be nice and not a means to an end but protein powder, meh who cares, quick shake and down it, no-one does a chefs kiss after mixing a bottle" Are you sure the 30 minute thing is true? I've heard a lot about how there isn't really such a thing as an anabolic window and just because the minor muscle tears have just happened, doesn't mean the protein is getting into repairing them any quicker as it's done in the recovery period while you're asleep.

Different colours, lengths, cuts etc

"There’s some proper miserable souls on this post. But the best so far was the Christmas dinner out remark. For some people/families this is the only time or chance that they get too meet. I presume that the disgruntled had a bad experience, fair enough.we live in a world of greed and with so many obvious answers available, this one has me gobsmacked Your question doesn’t make sense. I’m not sure what you’re saying? Why? From the staff who can't spend time with their familly's point of view? I'm not sure what you're saying. That's why I asked, why. I think you're saying that you're shocked someone nominated 'Christmas dinner out' as a waste of money. By arguing that those people having their dinner out might only get to see each other at Christmas. Negating that the people who are cooking and serving that dinner might also only see their families at Christmas. But can't, because they're serving someone else overpriced dinner. You said it was the best remark, did you mean the worst remark? Sorry. " Gotta stop you on this one, as a fully qualified chef who's worked a fair few Christmas days... 1st point - we don't get to choose (unless you are one of the select few) 2nd point - it's classed as a normal working day, same as Bank Holidays. So your lucky if you see anything extra let alone being well paid for it, some places do pay a bit extra, but not many. 3rd point - literally most of the chain pubs and restaurants, the food comes in frozen and its heated up and held, or warmed through prior to serving if its one of the less popular options (eg vegetarian over turkey) so you pay £20 for 2 courses on a regular festive feast, but the exact same food on Christmas day is what £60 upwards? 4th point - your chefs start the day at 8am, some places earlier. That's to do any prep that's needed (stuff that's not been done the night before like sprouts) like salad or portioning out cold orders, most are lucky to be home for 6pm, based on 12midday start, 3 sittings, last group in around 3pm, by the time everything has been served, plates come back, everything is cleaned and any staff meals sorted (basically any leftovers) it's cracking on. Your waiting staff will start maybe 11-11.30 after setting up the night before and they'll go as soon as their section is clear. By the time you get home Christmas is over, everyone's eaten and your sat on your own eating and it doesn't feel special. 5th point - if you can only meet up Christmas day, why does it have to be a pub and not someone's house where you can all bring a dish? For the cost of a family of 4 at £60 per head at a pub, (with an allocated time of 2hours maximum!) that's £240. That could get you a massive feast, plus drinks, plus treats, some films, and lots of other stuff. And if you say it's because some folks don't want to cook... Maybe those in the industry don't want to either but have to do it to keep their jobs, because they literally have no choice.

"Make up. Just be yourself and be proud. " What if makeup /brightly coloured hair etc is a way of expression and being yourself? What if it's part of your culture? Also what if its camouflage makeup to cover scars? Often makeup isn't worn to please others, it's to please the wearer *shrugs*

I think pubs and restaurants should be closed that day. Like you said, they can get so much for that money if they stay at home or go round each other's. £60 is just over two weeks groceries for me. Why would I choose to spend that on one meal instead of probably 50+ meals? It doesn't make sense.
