We have a few days off next week and want to have a little trip somewhere. We went to Bath recently and enjoyed it a lot. We're looking for somewhere where there are things to do and see, but I know that the short and cold days could limit us. Edinburgh is appealing. We want to go to Wales some time but don't really know where or what to do.
What recommendations do you have and what is there to do and see there? |

Totally biased, but Wales is awesome, especially in winter, when it’s quieter and the landscapes are very dramatic (pack wet weather gear, of course).
I’d head to Eryri (Snowdonia). If you do, don’t just aim for the area around Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). The southern part of the park is gorgeous too.
Maybe head down the west coast to Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire - fabulous coastlines and beaches. The former is part of the heartland of the Welsh language, so you may hear it in cafes, shops etc.
The Gower Peninsula, Brecon Beacons etc are great too, and there’s lovely spots in less touristy areas too e.g. Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales valleys.

Edinburgh is stunning and well worth the trip. Lots to do indoors in various art museums as well as outdoors, so is good for inclement weather.
Oxford is ok too, but we’d say is more of a winter day trip than any longer as lots of activities are river based and it’s a bit cold for that!
Dartmoor is lovely just for chilling out and driving around small fishing villages, and the Lake District the same but with lakeside villages. |

The countryside is lovely but wouldn't want to only be out walking. What are the sites? What are the visitor attractions to head for? |

Edinburgh has many tourist attractions and the Christmas markets have started also. Dean Village is stunning and great for a walk, as is the surrounding areas of Bruntsfield, Stockbridge..Stockbridge also has a foodie market on a Sunday that’s amazing, lots of quirky and vintage style shops too.
The grass market and George street are great for food/drinks you could visit the Dome which is iconic at Christmas time and does an excellent afternoon tea.There is a newly built shopping centre nearby also.
If venturing a little further out Leith has a great indoor street food and drinks venue with live music called Leith Arches - would be an easy taxi journey from the city centre.
You could catch a show at the Playhouse theatre and take a walk up the royal mile for great old fashioned pubs, museums etc
It’s a great city with loads to do

Harrogate. Trip to Betty’s, a walk in the park followed by a rummage in one of the many antique shops.
Horsey in Norfolk. See the seal pups as you walk along the beach before riding a steam train. |

The Cotswolds are a great place to head for a few days away.
Plenty of good restaurants and hotels. Some great walks especially up to Broadway Tower. Lots of independent shops for browsing and generally away from too many tourists this time of year. The whole area has a great feel to it and is completely unrushed by life |

It depends how far it is. For Scotland probably not, for somewhere within 100 miles we probably would. We don't want to spend all our time driving and running our car into the ground. |

If you wanted Cornwall , you could visit Truro for the Christmas market or the Eden project and the lost gardens of heligan if plants do it for you.
Plenty of nice restaurants about, but the best ones have very limited availability |

"Chester and York are lovely this time of year.
Both have a lot of history, cathedrals of course, Roman walls and lots of interesting shops and cafes…waterside and park walks.
Again somewhat biased but York trips Chester, a beautiful place,more original architecture, lots to explore catering for a wide range of tastes and set in beautiful countryside.
(Some lovely local swingers if you get the itch as well......
(Two hours from Kings Cross or about four hours driving from Redhill).

We love Trecco Bay in Porthcawl, its run by Parkdean but has a good few things to do, I don't know if you have to rent a caravan in order to use all the facilities, I know you do for the restaurant x |

Diddnt know they had seal pups there !
I took a boat to middle Farn a couple weeks ago the whole island is literally coveted in seal pups this time of year. Northumberland is great but a long way from Redhill. Lots of castles along the beach and you can drive to Holy Island at low tide.

Well there's an offer. We like galleries, museums, generally wandering around interesting towns, churches, good restaurants and especially spas. We're big fans of naturism but November isn't really the best month for it. |
