Little white lies

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

I know people tell little white lies on their profile from time to time. I guess to retain a bit of anonymity? My question is, do you lose trust with someone who tells little white lies on their profile? What do you let them off with? Age? Height? Location? Etc or do you not agree with any false details?

Somewhere over the rainbow

The only one that seems to bother me is age, there are some who seem to lower their age on here to get around filters, i know of one guy pretending to be 18 years younger on his profile than he actually is.

Ya know, I’ve considered pretending to be older on my profile to get past the default age filters. Usually, people enjoy talking with me before realizing how old I actually am. Do people take offense to it, if the rest of the interaction goes well?

If someone has changed Age or location for example to protect privacy I get that as long as its reasonable.

28 instead 29 is fine 28 instead of 40 not so much.

I wouldn't be happy if someone lied about age to round filters.

I respect it, but it makes life more difficult for exceptions to their rules. I understand why an age filter is needed, but it puts me at a disadvantage as an old soul.

Also, I much enjoy more experienced (mature) women, since they’ve got more to teach and have more fun than women my age.

But you don't get decide other people's preferences and lying to get what you want won't end well.

I wouldn't meet someone who started out by deceiving me even if we got on well and where compatible for a meet.

Fair enough. This app works well enough for meeting couples, but seems my charm in real life remains the vast way to meet interested cougars.

On that case you may find clubs a better option as its easier to get your personality across.

In most cases, they work better yeah. Issue is really my schedule and how far Hu9 is. I’d go to one of the clubs in town, but fear seeing my boss or a coworker.

Ever had a run in like that?

That is always a risk with clubs but has never happened to me but my thinking is you are both in the same situation if it does happen.

Despite me being outside your age range and quite far away, I’d appreciate a friend request so I can continue to bounce questions off ya. In exchange, you get some new eye candy!

I understand little lies, adjusting your location and age slightly to not be identified easily, that's fine. Lying about your physical appearance is different, everyone should know exactly who they are meeting and catfishing is a dangerous lie.

Op, I’m not bothered what they put on their profile, it doesn’t hurt me until they lie to my face, that’s when it would bother me.

Tweaking your DOB for security is OK - no one you meet is going to know the difference between a person who turned 37 on June from one in August.

Changing your physical details like height etc or indeed your age outside a range of +/- 6 months or so is nothing to do with security and is all about misrepresentation designed to decieve and wouldn't be what I would call a white lie.

When is a white lie just simply a lie? I don't think some of the ones you mentioned are necessarily "white" lies.

Lying to protect your anonymity is one thing, I can understand people not wanting to be found out, but lying about something that is going to be an obvious physical thing that someone you meet will immediately see is just deception and I don’t know why someone would set themselves up to be a disappointment in real life.

Dishonesty is dishonesty. If you need to lie to get ahead or get some form of advantage then your not the sort of person we’d want to meet.

White lies are OK as long as they're not wildly from the truth.

I think the only "white lie" on our profile is the initial we use for our name.

For meeting purposes here I am not too interested in the minor details of a profile as I would have already seen them with my own eyes on cam before meeting.

If they said they were single and it turned out that was a lie i'd not be happy about that but at the end of the day it's just a couple of hours sex - not a life time commitment so i'd probably not find out later.

I get changing small details to protect anonymity, but anything more than that is simply deceit. Straight red flag for me.

I’m actually 46 not 47 so I guess I have told a fib there. I can understand certain things being omitted or modified on a profile (or even pics) to protect anonymity (I used to “blend out” peoples tattoos on photoshop for them.

It’s the whoppers that phase me, being obviously older/younger, attached etc. just to get laid? Smacks of desperate.

The other thing about the age "lie" ...is fabs gets you to enter an age when you join but it doesn't auto update it so i suspect many dont realise the fab age is static? i have only just relaised this fact. Photos ladies? these are the most "eleastic" re age.

Age and height.

I’ve met a fair few who are noticeably shorter than they state on their profile.

Age is a very common lie on here unfortunately, anything more than a year is pointless for trying to be discreet.

But also those that state they are single but are in fact married. It would be better to put nothing at all, and tell the person you are talking to from the start you are not single, rather than state “single” in the bio.

Yes I lose trust.

I do understand people not wanting to be recognised.

I totally understand people being careful due to stalkers or idiots who may recognise you in the street or workplace or from school etc and don't know how to behave appropriately.

However, having had more than my share of bullshitters I'd simply rather not.

Disguising your name is one thing, most else to me is a red flag

Desperate plus lack of self acceptance. Twisting the truth to appease people that they find attractive, who would change their mind about them if they knew the facts.
