It used to be. Then Brexit happened and everything was about Brexit. The Covid happened and everything was about Covid. Two news items have dominated the last four years of news and frankly I got bored of it. I try to know enough to make my decision on who to vote for, but that's about all I can muster up enthusiasm for.
American politics has been a different matter though. Luke |

I like to keep abreast of world news, but it's become increasingly unreliable because of the twisted media. It used to be relevant to me for work, but now it's more out of interest as to when the shit may hit the fan. |

Same. I'm even over following American politics. I'm the most out of touch with current affairs I've ever been. |

It's not news, it's little bits of information they want you to see. They pick and choose what to broadcast to suit whatever narrative they are pushing that week. |

Very very similar to myself. I used to watch and read few of the news apps every morning religiously, then the news was dominated by those two and I’m not that interested. I just catch the headlines now… |

I rarely watch the news. It's all doom and gloom and I get upset seeing and listening to some of the subjects.
I have enough going on in my personal life to think about that I don't need to add to the stress. |

This, it's all propaganda pushing a governments agenda. |

I agree, but then there are enough online platforms to pick and choose your news choice, I prefer my news from other sources |

Correct, I use other sources for what’s going on in the world. (Not FB or Twitter) |

Hell no. I don't really want to know all of the doom and gloom of the world which it majoritively is. However this puts me at a massive conversational disadvantage with people who are up to date. |

I always shift the conversation away from that crap if people go there.
Worst conversational topic, "the news". |

Not into conspiracies, but it is obvious and true that we rarely get the full story. Very few genuinely open and transparent news outlets these days. They are all slanted in some way by political, corporate or ideological agenda of some sort. All competing for a narrative that aids their own world view.
Have shifted concern from being ‘in the know’ and always up to date on events to being more adaptable - aware that we are in a fast changing world where what we take for granted could change or go left field quickly. So building strategies to cope with that.
As the sating goes. We live in interesting times.

I dont know how anyone can take the "news reports" seriously
At this point you might as well watch it believing its a fictional TV series about news reporting |

Has anyone noticed how trigger happy the BBC are with their news alerts nowadays? I do still get those, but they used to be for major news like big deal deaths and wars starting. Now they're constant and about cats getting stuck up trees! I get a fright every time the beep goes. |

I think you have to find a ‘news’ source as opposed to an ‘opinon of the news ‘ source potentially slanted to support a bias , political or corporate narrative xx
So much sensationalism creating crises that never were an issue into an issue - the recent fuel ‘shortage’. Was blown up into a major national incident by irresponsible journalism.
Its good to be world aware just be cautious of whose view of the world it is. X |

That how I read it. I just assume it's exaggerated bollocks otherwise it gets depressing.
I read the Daily Mail for the Comments. |

I have zero trust for the news and current affairs media. I switched it off many years ago, and only get any snippets from general conversation, or if I happen to glance at a screen that’s showing it in a place I happen to be. |

I try to keep well informed but that doesn't mean I have an informed opinion. I read everything I can though it's surprising what gets reported, what doesn't and what makes headlines over what you'd think were more important news events.
Take the change to the social care cap. Due to the Paterson row and fuss over HS2, the change means people will now pay the first £86000. It means those from lower incomes/geographies will be affected more as their assets (savings/houses) are worth less, whilst those with £1/2m houses wont, as once the £86k is paid, there is still a large excess of cash.
I believe it is still to be voted on (next week), though it didn't really make headlines given the dramatic change.
