Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
I try and focus on my breathing to slow it down and stop me from falling into hyperventilating.
I had some treatment for this and was encouraged to hum a tune to get into a rhythm for my breathing and to distract me from whatever was making me anxious.

I wouldn't say I have anxiety but I do get anxious sometimes. I take Kalms every day or when I need it. I know not very helpful but I just need something to help me feel grounded and right now that does the job. |

Speak to your GP.
Cognitive therapy may work by itself, if not, mild medication might be needed depending on how severe it is.
From my my own experience get it looked at as soon as possible. I left it for years and I look back at all the time I wasted and wish I'd of gone about it sooner |

I used to get anxiety attacks years ago about going out (which for a socially animal like me seemed absurd.)
I started writing down the worst things that could possibly happen while out and when I read it back I'd see it either wasn't that bad or so ridiculous it'd never happen. And when I got back home I'd look again and realise none of the things I wrote happened. After a while the attacks happened less and less.
Every anxiety attack is different so there might be something you find that works for you.
Hope you do soon.

Bare feet. Stand on floor. Close eyes, concentrate wholly and fully on what you feel through your feet. Breathe slowly. That can help in the immediate term.
But ultimately, talk to your GP.
Remember you aren't alone, and you are not going mad x |

Be kind to yourself. And if it is having an impact on your day to day life then seek some professional help.
I always try to push through it but there was times I couldn't. If you've got people around you who will support and help you make sure to take advantage. |

Anxiety can be like stage fright. The effects can be debilitating. But once you’re past the point of no return ….wow.
I’m funnier when I’m anxious. Can be a bit cutting though.
But remember great art was never created without anxiety. |

I was diagnosed with severe anxiety and depression four years ago. Now it's just the depression I have to deal with, the anxiety seemed to escalate into the depression over time. I'm on a prescription for it but it helps up to a point. That black hole inside threatens to engulf me every day unless I take my meds x |

Sorry i didn’t scroll through the above but i feel it depends on which type of person you are. If self help is your thing then the C.B.T aspect can be useful, rationalising thoughts ( between helpful and unhelpful) , what’s going on in the here and now. Mindfulness/ meditation is also very helpful. There are plenty of free apps and websites available and if the op wants to message me I would be happy to supply some.
Medication has been mentioned, while z and x drugs aren’t widely prescribed, sertraline is a fairly generic ssri that can be used to combat anxiety.
Although anti depressants may have a stigma , if you can imagine a person with a bad ankle needs a walking stick? Well it’s not that different. |

I think people think anxiety is unnatural. It’s not. Apparent over confidence is more unnatural.
Because of our almost learned corporate type behaviour we conform in sterile surrounds. We feel we will look ridiculous if we break.
Loosen up, breathe, prat about a bit. Shake a leg or tap a pen. Process that anxiety and when you get out run down the street howling like a ten year old. Have fun and enjoy your life.
Don’t rely on Dr Pharma’s little pills. |

There is a lot of advice here but I think it is important to acknowledge that everyone is different. I am lucky that I do not suffer from anxiety or any mental health issue, but I have a lot of close friends who do. What I have learnt is that everyone is different and no solution is something we can say is the right one for all. What works for one may not work for another.
I wish you well if you (or anyone else in this thread) are a sufferer and hope you find the best solution, whether it is talking therapy, medication, or a mixture of both. |
