Single boredom

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

So after being in a long relationship I've become quite bored living alone (best days of the week are when kids are over). Living in a new place extremely far from friends and family and only having 1 night a week at MMA training (which I'm guilty of not going to every week) leaves me quite unsatisfied. I get bored watching too much TV, and find myself here for amusement.

What do other singles here do for entertainment? Wanking doesn't count and I'm not joining a gym.

Join a group? Volunteer somewhere?

I'm single but tethered to the house with my kids in bed. I'd love to be freer to go out and do more things! You can do whatever you want

I go running a lot and a member of an amateur sports club. But lockdown nearly ruined me as someone who lived one and not dated for a while.

If you could join a group, what would it be? I need suggestions because being a family man for 16 years has left me a bit out of touch with what I could do.

Fill your time with things that you enjoy doing. Reading, TV, hobbies, exercise, join social groups, learn a new skill, take a course, etc.

It’s all about what you want to do.

Irrespective of being single or not, being bored is about managing your interests and your time.

Boredom is one thing, loneliness is another

Get a dog. Best company ever. Go out running and train the dog to run by your side.

I volunteer in Girlguiding, I voluntarily clean fish tanks.

What are your interests/skills?

There's a group for everything these days. And if there isn't, set one up. My job has social inclusion aspects to it, you can get funding and community rooms for various projects. Men's shed is currently a popular avenue.

I realise as well that you have many nights to fill. I guess the grass is always greener x

Only if you have time for a dog and not having to leave it all day on its own

A dog is a brilliant suggestion. They fulfill many roles.

On a mooch

Filling quiet time can be hard to do if not used to it.

As others have said find some clubs that might interest you, so much out there.

Or try a new skill, drawing, painting, photography, learn a language

Op, I'm in the same boat and the house does seem empty most of the time! I work offshore and have 3 weeks at home at a time so I was finding it hard to motivate myself to get out of bed most days, just being lazy, wasting my mornings away. I started helping a friend doing cash in hand work for him which gave me structure as I had to be where he needed me at a 8:30. I also exercise a lot - jogging, swimming and doing kettle bells in the house. I'm always cooking and try to get the bairns as much as possible. Now Covid isn't such an issue you can join clubs, mixed badminton is a great one! Join a pub pool or darts team, or even better a quiz team which will have more lady's ?? . DIY, open university - there's loads you can do to kill the time!! I hope you find what works for you!

I like cycling in hot sunny weather. Not so much on cold dark nights.

Thanks for all the suggestions and empathy folks. I'll look into these. In the mean time I've got the Xbox, and I definitely prefer the company of my Xbox to that of my ex-wife so single life has some benefits

Video games are always good. I've been playing my Nintendo Switch all day today. Pay day isn't until tomorrow so couldn't afford to go out today.

Reading. Not just books but articles online. Similarly there’s an abundance of interesting films and documentaries online. Shortoftheweek is a fantastic resource for short docs.

Learn a new skill. I love drawing and writing.

Make things. Buy some kind of kit where you build a model car or boat, or something.

Meditation, yoga. + Other things focused on awareness and wellbeing.

I like to just lie down and think/process/daydream.

Listening to music with nothing else to do but sit and be immersed in it.

I was an only child for the first eight years of my life so I’m very capable of keeping myself entertained. Never get bored on my own.

Wish I had suggestion mate but in same boat myself and struggling with the same, house feels so empty without missus and daughter here any more. Dug the Xbox out the other day and played for a bit on the downstairs telly which was never allowed but wasn’t in the fettle for it. So far resisting opening the vodka haha
