Can people say what they have in their slow cooker.
Also if anyone has a soup maker. I had one for Xmas last year and it’s still in the box. I want to use it. Onion soup I fancy but I’m up for anything.
Give us your soup maker recipes. |

I make all my soup in a huge saucepan. A favourite is to boil a gammon joint & use the water as the stock. Soak soup mix (split peas, lentils etc) in plain water and when ready drain & add to the stock. Add grated carrot, parsnip & potato (and any other veg) & a finely chopped leek bring to the boil then some of the gammon & simmer until veg cooked. I hated this when my granny made it when I was a child but love it now.
I also make carrot & coriander, leek & potato, curried parsnip, spicy pumpkin & at Christmas or special occasions a mushroom soup. I buy pour & store bags too for freezing.

Instant watercress soup
Put a bag of watercress in the blender and add boiling hot veg stock about 1/3 way up. Add a dollop of cream cheese or similar and whizz till smooth. Works with rocket too or frozen peas with fresh mint.
Youre welcome x

"Doctor pepper and a pork shoulder.
Not as good as when it’s glazed in the oven but it gets the job done.
Shred it and have plenty of baps and apple sauce on hand "
I don’t like Dr Pepper can you do it with cola? |

"What’s a soup maker?! Is that actually a thing????
Clues in the name.
No sh*t Sherlock.
I mean do people actually buy them as opposed to just using a pan? "
Yes, that’s why they sell them in the shops, it’s called supply and demand. |

Left over chicken/ham with winter veg and a veg stock cube?
Poaching pears in Rosé wine with sugar, cinamon. Nashi pears are the nicest in my opinion. When finished poaching you could have it with custard.
I like mince meat with onions. That's tasty.
A rolled turkey joint with herbs & onions or topside/silverside with onions & herbs & reduced salt stock....
See if there are any books on Amazon? |

Try this one with sausages, beef cubes or even meatballs...
500g beef (or sausage etc)
4 red onions
2 large carrots chopped
1 pack peeled chestnuts (or walnuts or even parsnips!)
400ml beef stock
200ml red wine
2 Bay leaves
Fresh herbs chopped
Ground black pepper to taste
Throw it all in the slow cooker except the chestnuts and fresh herbs, if you have time brown off the meat first and char the onions for best flavour. After 6 hours add the chestnuts and herbs and leave another 20 mins to an hour. If using walnuts add at the beginning so they're not crunchy. The chestnuts will have no bite if added at the beginning, still nice. |

If you like tarragon try this it's incredible..
500g chicken thighs, bone in, most of skin removed
2 leeks
1 onion
1 large carrot
1/2 to 1 bunch celery
1/2 pack fresh tarragon
light veg stock (half strength)
Salt and pepper to taste
Squeeze of lemon to serve
Chop veg, add chicken thighs whole and place on bed of tarragon, add everything else and set to slow cook. Add more stock to get a soup or less to get a stew |

In my day it was called a pan.
I still use a pan soup maker? How bloody lazy is that "
I was thinking the same. I use my wok. Onion, potato, sweet potato and pumpkin with veg stock, single cream and plenty of black pepper. |

I’ve got an Instant Pot.
It’s a combined pressure and slow cooker. Use it all the time for making batches of curries, chilli, bolognese and soup too. Often struggle to get the consistency of soup right though.
Highly recommended |

Yeah, I'm thinking that too!!!!?????
To me it's a frying pan, it's a wok, it's a saucepan, it's a slow cooker, it's a pressure cooker. Whatever you have to hand.
Pressure cookers are amazing. Do they still use them? I haven't used one since being a student years & years ago.....
You have all made feel hungry. Must go & make some food soon... |

Nothing in mine now, but you cant beat a Slow cooker full brecky...
Put the beans, toms and mushrooms in cups in the middle of the pot.
stand the sausages on their ends, and roll the bacon up (I use medallions) so the raw sausages and bacon are touching the edges of the pot. Cook on low overnight, 8hrs later just fry the eggs, toast the bread.
A perfect full english |

Same for me and I tear the vegetables, dug from the allotment, apart rather than using one of those new fangled knife things, then braised in beef stock from boiling down bones for no less than 8 hours over the log fire…. |
