Given that we all now have such wonderful newfangled inventions like calendars and personal timepieces isn't it time we put a stop to the relentless, monotonous clanging of church bells every Sunday morning?

No. Church bells are a tradition that I actually like. Why should we get rid of traditions.

I don't hear them any more, so they've already stopped in my local area.

I don't know when they stopped either.

I like to hear church bells.

Twice a week is hardly relentless, three times if there's a wedding or funeral.

Yes. The noise pollution is genuinely offensive. They're always out of time and off beat.

The call to prayer from a mosque can be rather soothing though.

I just feel that the church of Satan needs a similar gimmick.

I love the sound of church bells as long as they dont go clanging on for hours.

And I don't have a hangover

Black Sabath or Metallica on a Sunday morning is fine by me

I love church bells. I'm too far away from the nearest traditional church to hear them regularly.

It's not as if they're rung daily for hours

I love the sound of church bells, living in an area with a church near, then you have to expect them being part of your life.

Traditional sound of Sundays growing up.

This is the worst “living in the country” flex I have ever seen!!

P.s when I was at university I was awoken every Sunday morning at 9am by Sally Army singing…..

I used to live somewhere that had a cattle market held weekly since the mid 14th century. Some new houses were built nearby into which people from various cities moved. They very soon write to the local council and press complaining about the noise and the smell. We were all astonished!

I work near the Bow Bells, those bastards really go some.

Depending on what sort of morning you have had, they are either a spectacular life affirming sound, or an oppressive reminder of your own mortality

Best thing about them is when they stop. They don't even ring at the same time. The one next door has packed it in. Now i can hear one a bit further away hard at it.

If you want a bit of light prospective on the matter .. try this…

Fancy swapping places??

Oh, where am I… in a hospital… next to my bed!

So… do the church bells seem as annoying now?

Here in our village the bells of the church toll at seven for the start of the working day and at 12 for lunch and at seven in the event for the end of the working day which is an old thing from the farming days and we like it.

One of the first songs I learned in French was

C'est la cloche du vieux manoir.

Our teacher told us about the meaning of the bells...happy days.

People who buy a house next to a school and complain about the noise of children playing outside! Absolutely pisses me off!

This post was made as people would have been going into Church on Remembrance Sunday, so perhaps not the best day to be complaining?

Also Church bells rung continuously on a Sunday are not for time keeping, but to call people into the service. Some Church bells do also chime the hour etc but then they do that every hour....

The church we lived near rang the bells on Sunday morning and evening, on practice days, weddings and the most bone chilling sound I think I'll ever hear, for funerals. The whole town used to fall silent. It rarely happens now though

The local parish church chimes once on the half hour, chimes the hour e.g x10 at 10 o'clock and they are obviously rung on Sundays and for special occasions.

Oh yeah it chimes the hours and quarters too. It's never bothered me growing up as I did with a grandfather clock

Love church bells, when I lived close to a mosque I loved the call to prayer, when I lived on the route of a cubs and brownies church parade I used to love to hear the kids playing hymns as they passed.

I don't have a faith, but I enjoy the fact that others find comfort in a religious routine.

Yeah, I'd agree with that.
