I do CrossFit and I bloody love it !
Diet wise - really depends on what your looking to do ? If you want to lose fat than a calorie deficit is the only way to go ! If you want to build muscle the. A surplus with the correct amount of protein ! |

"Lose fat first and try to tone as I go so no loose skin "
The only way to lose fat then is a calorie deficit! You can work it out pretty easy on a calculator online!
Loose skin is dependent on your size and genetics unfortunately! |

The simple thing to say is to consume fewer calories than you burn. I can't give the best advice diet but as far as exercise, I much prefer medium intensity cardio over a longer period as opposed to high intense cardio as I find that easier to keep on top of.
Good luck! ![](/icons/rainbow.png) |

Running. That’s all you need to do exercise wise…. As long as you don’t decide to “treat” yourself after a run.
My suggestion would be to use a health tracker and input your food intake. It focuses the mind when you realise how many calories you take on board from food and what you need to do to burn off those calories.
For me (and everyone is different) I burn
40 calories a mile cycling
70 calories a mile walking
120 calories a mile running
A Domino’s pizza is 2,400 calories
As I say… it focuses the mind lol |

Don’t commit to running, commit to daily walks.
I’m slacking on mine as I’m mentally unwell and my calf’s as tight as a violin string right now but I promise you, you’ll feel better and look it too.
If you have apple fitness, try that too and the pilates classes which will tighten up your core and strengthn it too |

Don't pay for anything. My fitness pal is a free app that helps you track calories vs exercise. All paid apps/ diets/ weight loss programs are a con. You don't need them |

+1 for Myfitnesspal.
I’ve had massive success with fat loss by simply tracking my foods, tracking my training, and being consistent. |

You don’t need to pay for anything , and you don’t actually need to exercise . You can’t out train a bad diet
You have to be in a deficit to lose fat. Any fads / shakes / apps etc just put you into a caloric deficit without you realising! |

C signed up to the V-shred diet and I used the meal plans for the recipes.
I wouldn’t even call it a diet actually…it’s just making sure you eat clean, cook from scratch and so you are eating healthy.
Just eating healthily alone has resulted in us losing close to a stone each in about 5/6 week.
I don’t believe in diets as soon enough you’ll have to go back to eating more at some point but I could easily eat the foods on this plan as it’s just making sure most of the food going into your body is clean…

It's a 'toned in 90 days' programme that I signed up for to get me out of the lethargy of lockdown. It's been brilliant. The exercise regime is not too taxing or time consuming and yet works miracles

I'd check those calories/mile walking. The energy burnt is determined mostly by your weight and the distance you move it. This is physics, work done (a measure of energy) = force x distance and the force required to move an object depends on it's weight. There is only a very small variation caused by the diferences in efficiency between walking and running.
Absolutely spot on about how much easier it is to eat calories than burn them. I run 40 - 50 miles a week which translates to only an extra bowl of cereal and a packet of crisps a day in terms of extra calories.
Op, the best exercise is one you enjoy enough to stick to. As others have said you need a calorie deficit to lose weight. This means finding foods that satisfy you but have relatively low calories - for instance two boiled eggs and a piece of toast has roughly the same calories as a mars bar but will leave you feeling full for much much longer. Also, be really careful about counting - include what you drink for a start.

The James smith podcasts are pretty good, there's an interesting one about training for women too it talks about how the different stages of your cycle effect your training and how you should take that into account.
For everything else the answer is pretty much always calorie defecit and whatever excercise you enjoy though.

Again, a big. +1 from me for James Smith material. ‘Not a diet book’ became my bible during the summer of 2020.

Balanced meals, cutting down on sugar/salt intake and exercise regularly.
Swimming, yoga, cycling and running are all the exercises I found helped me.
Try all to see what works for you and enjoy...

Find a sport or activity that you enjoy. Surfing burns crazy calories and is great for your mental health. The same goes for cold water swimming. Making little changes like walking instead of driving or using the stairs instead of lifts all help too. If you’re forcing yourself to do an exercise almost as a punishment then you’ll give up on it.
As for diet, just be aware of what you’re eating and drinking. Things like crisps and deep fried foods are high calories and low value foods. You can easily overeat them and not fill yourself up. This is the same with sugary things like fizzy drinks or fruit juices. Orange juice might be good for vitamin c, but it’s super sugary. Better to eat fruit and get the benefit of all the fibre than to drink it and just get the sweet juice. A salad is great, but high fat/sugary dressings can easily add calories.
Cut down on alcohol. A bottle of wine can easily undo so much hard work of the exercise. It’s good to have an understanding of how many calories things have to give you an idea of your intake, but counting every single one becomes the same as forcing yourself to do exercise you hate and is easy to give up. There’s also evidence that different people’s guts can process the same food in different ways so one person may actually be able to get more calories/energy from a certain food than another. Counting calories isn’t an exact science.
I hope this is of some help and good luck. It’s all about burning more than you put in. |

The calories per mile are exactly accurate according to my Apple Fitness App.
At 60 years old and 87Kgs my static burn is 2,000 calories per day and I normally add another 1,000 - 1,500 active calories through daily running and walking. I gave up on cycling as I needed to do three times the distance of running. |

The calorie tracking app or wearables have been shown to be incredibly inaccurate in studies, ranging from be 300-100% off if I remember the study correctly |

I find the keto diet works really well for me. It’s not everyone’s taste as you eat so few carbs but as I love meat/fish/dairy I find it quite easy.
I do fall off the wagon every so often though (Pringles are my nemesis)! |

You're already sexy. Diet - don't do a diet, Look at what foods help with skin, mental health, vitamins etc. Oily fish will help you not crave chocolate for instants.
Exercise - Anything that gets your heart rate going and makes you sweat. What do you like doing? Roller skatig, skipping down the fuckin street, anything that makes you feel joy is the way to go.

But three times the distance on a bike is roughly the same time? A 10k run at an easy chatting pace is 55 mins to an hour. An hours cycling at a similar effort level wouldn't be far off 30k

I don’t disagree - but finding a pleasant 30k cycling route is a lot harder than finding a nice 10k running route.
I have tried cycling, it’s just not my thing. I find it a faff to burn the right number of calories that I want to.
I have always preferred running, even going back to school days I was a runner.
I am just so tuned in to running now that I know exactly what to do to initially hit my active calories target of 700 calories (5 miles), what I need to do to guarantee that I will get a 1,000 calorie day (6 miles) and what I need to do to guarantee a doubling of my calories by the end of the day (8.5 miles).
It’s working for me anyway and I like the way my Apple Fitness App helps me to track and to challenge myself and record everything so well.
As it happens I am on a daily Move record of 684 consecutive days at the moment and I am so scared of not running one day and having to start all over again. |

Any exercise that gets your heart beating faster is good for you and just eating less than you burn will work.
Find an exercise that you enjoy doing and if possible get friends involved to train with as they will give encouragement, pressure you to train when you don't want to and generally help with the fitness routine. |

Just keep having sex daily... as often as possible, on your own if others aren’t around to join in. It is the best workout of all! And as Woody Allen said: “Don’t knock masturbation: It’s sex with someone you really love!” |

So I have been on a bit of a mission recently and compared 10 miles walks (time spent and calories burned) against 10 mile runs (time spent and calories burned). Ten mile walks varied from a quick forced match pace of three hours and 950 calories, to a steady amble and 760 calories.
Running ten miles delivered a calorie burn of between 1,230 and 1,250 calories over 1 hour 30’ to 1 hour 40’
Either way, running is a far more efficient way of burning calories. |

Dancing, I’ve been doing it since I was 2 and I can’t imagine not doing it, a true feeling of freedom, expression and so good for confidence! not to mention the calories you can burn whilst having fun.
I eat pretty much what I want in moderation, walk 10k steps a day and drink 2/3ltrs of water.
Don’t deprive yourself just try and eat better than you do now, up the fruit and veg intake and limit the carbs/dairy and products high in fat/sugar content.
Good luck OP

The best ones are the ones that work for you. I know that doesn't make it any easier but it's true!
There are a couple of things that apply to most people:
- habits are power
- do exercise that you enjoy and that inspires you
- an appropriate calorie deficit |

Find an exercise you enjoy, and then you’ll stick to it. You tube has every type of exercise, I stick it on the tv and workout in my lounge.
I find resistance bands are very effective for toning.
Intermittent fasting, and myfitnesspal.
Good luck! |

Team sports are the most fun, and great for making new friends too.
Specific diets are not my thing, but generally eating better is not too difficult. Cut out sweets and processed snacks and replace them with fruit and veg.... and don't eat anything beige.
