The kindness of strangers

So earlier at tea time i was making my tea! I went to my back garden to put my rubbish in the recycle bin. I jumped out my skin as i heard a voice at the back gate to the main street, It was the guy next door putting his big bin out for tomorrow! He asked would i like mine taken out too. How kind and thoughtful of him! I see him sometimes and have chatted a few times, It's nice when people can be so kind when he didn't have to offer. Such a true gentleman and fit too  hehe Kindness costs nothing! But it can make someone's day.

Not done for me but a while ago myself and another forumite clubbed together and got a weeks shopping delivery for a guy we knew on here who was struggling financially and with his health. Also recently I was in hospital and a young mum with two children was struggling to find her purse whilst managing the kids so I decided to get her a coffee from the vending machine she was so grateful. Told her to pay it forward. A little act of kindness goes a long way.

I was in M&S the other week buying a cake on my way to a friend's in North Wales. Realised as she rang it through that I didn't have my purse. Lovely lady behind me insisted on paying it for me, so I didn't have to drive home.
How lovely was that? |

Looked after me and stayed with me till an ambulance came when I was run over at 18. Used his coat as a pillow, tried to get the car off my leg/foot and gave me a hankie to snivel into. Never forget that. |

I was shopping in tescos one day, a woman infront of me at the tills was buying a trolley full of wine because of the discount on it and extra points but she forgot her clubcard.. She asked if I had one which I did so she asked to use mine on her transaction. She got the discount on the wine and I got all the extra points. Very adulting but a few extra pounds off the shopping is always appreciated. |

I'm thinking about this and can't recall a stranger ever doing anything for me apart from the expected holding the door etc. I was pumping up a flat with a foot pump once when a man walked past, looked at me and smiled then said "oh bad luck" and walked on. I suppose he was quite kind to sympathise  |

Helped a biker recently when he came off in front of us on the a35. His bike got dragged down the road by a HGV. He had broken bones and was bleeding a lot from one of his wounds. I kept him still dressed what I could, held his head and airway open, kept him calm, helped the paramedics get him on the scoop and stretcher and carry him to the air ambulance. His friends found me on Facebook a few weeks later to say he’s made an amazing recovery. He’s now recovering at home with broken wrists ankles ribs and a skin graft on his wounds but doing well otherwise.
Was a scary experience but luckily I’ve been a nurse and kept up to date with my first aid training. Some witnesses came over to me after and gave me a goody bag of things to say thank you. I was blown away I just did what anyone would do. I lost some sleep over it but I’m so glad he’s doing ok now. |

It was scary but he was lucky two nurses on the scene. Myself and another lady helped him. There was no one else injured but the driver of one of the cars was in shock. There was people giving us first aid kits blankets etc. The public really did help in this situation. I think generally people are kind. I’d like to think so anyway. |

Got absolutely black out d*unk a few months ago as was going through a very bad time, got separated from my friends and was wondering about a club on my own, a girl clocked me and stayed with me all night, bless her I was probably chatting shit and crying all night but she made sure I got in a taxi home safe |

A lady was in a shop trying to buy what looked like dinner and essentials for her and her children. She didn’t have enough money to pay and was starting to put some of the stuff back.
I was in the shop with my son buying him a drink and he turned to me and said ‘daddy, if I put the drink back can you give the money to the lady?’
I paid for the ladies food and bought my son his drink and walked out proud of my son .
The lady wanted my details to pay it back but I told her to pay it forward.

I was in the shop with my son buying him a drink and he turned to me and said ‘daddy, if I put the drink back can you give the money to the lady?’

I used to leave face masks / bath bombs / costa vouchers in the baby changing rooms of Bluewater shopping centre when I lived up that way - with a little postcard with some encouraging words for parents ! I always remember how hard it was and something like that would have made my day back when I had babies !
When I was counter protesting somewhere the staff gave me coffee and biscuits all day ! That was ace ! |

I was in Asda a few years back when a lady in front of me had a full trolley..she puts it all through the till..with 2 screaming kids, clearly she was visibly distressed at this point..I'd seen her around the shop.. struggling with them...(we've all been there). Anyway poor lady couldn't find her purse getting more distressed..cashier was no help to her..I paid for the lot.. doesn't end their..on the way out she told me she was supposed to get a taxi home..so me being the gentleman I am..I drove her home and on the way asked could we stop at McDonald's for the kids...
Poor lady was so delighted..I felt married and we went our separate ways on dropping her at home... |

I was in a hotel with my little person who was a toddler at the time in preparation for a course the next day. He woke up at 2am screaming, he needed calpol. I went to the petrol station next to the hotel to buy some in the early hours but my card declined. I was mortified. Two guys behind me paid for the calpol and told me to pay it forward.
Went back to the hotel to find out where my money went, I needed to buy breakfast and fuel. Something unexpected came out and wiped the contents of my account (later refunded). I spoke to the hotel and asked if I could just have a slice of toast for little one and explained what happened. They gave us a free breakfast that morning.
That was an awful day made far better by strangers |
